The incumbent will be responsible for the performance of the building, landscaping, environmental and roadway maintenance functions of the entire Arima General Hospital.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the following position at the New Arima General Hospital:

 CIVIL ENGINEER I

The incumbent will be responsible for the performance of the building, landscaping, environmental and roadway maintenance functions of the entire Arima General Hospital.

Main Responsibilities:

• Independently surveys/inspects the entire property and identify/locate actual and potential problem areas.
• Responds to, investigates and resolves maintenance or construction problems reported to the department.
• Prepares preliminary sketches and design features on projects for the draughting section, develop preliminary and final designs on assigned projects.
• Prepares cost estimates and economic justifications for assigned projects.
• Provides appropriate budget items.
• Prepares annual preventative maintenance programme for all areas under responsibility.
• Plans job sequence (programme) for crafts, teams and units concerned.
• Supervises craft and area foreman in the execution of all projects which he is assigned; general supervision of construction, installation and testing.
• Assistant Manager, Engineering and Maintenance Operations prioritizing all projects and identifying all work elements which may require the services of outside craft and consultants.
• Prepares general specifications – features and ratings worked out with the units and departments concerned.
• Prepares, if necessary, special operating and maintenance procedures.
• Recommends and makes minor design changes, if needed.
• Submits regular periodic progress reports on works/jobs in progress and final reports on completed projects.
• Reviews maintenance and large-repair cost records.
• Prepares reports for control, alteration and replacement.
• Familiarizes new technical employees with operations and procedures of the department.
• Collects, updates and keeps all drawings properly referenced.
• Performs other related duties as directed by the organisational relationship.

Minimum Qualifications, Training and Experience:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum of five (5) post qualification years of experience in a similar or related job function.
• Certification in Supervisory Management and Property Management would be an asset.
