Summary of Position:

The Senior Information Technology Officer co-ordinates the administration of information technology (IT) services throughout the Credit Union.  The incumbent provides advanced technical support to users and reports unresolved problems to Management. 

 

The IT Officer provides Information Communication Technology (ICT) services, support and maintains the ICT infrastructure, ICT systems, software and hardware located on-premises and off premises and also supports the Operations Manager in expanding the use of ICT throughout the Credit Union. 

Principal Accountabilities / Key Functions:

IT Development

  • Provides technical leadership on a variety of highly specialized project-related activities requiring expertise in specific technical areas for core information technology systems and services ensuring projects are completed as planned. 
  • Collaborates with the Operations Manager to review vendor contracts and recommends IT purchases (hardware, software and services) to ensure effective deployment of solutions aligned with the Credit Union’s needs. 
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, objectives, short- and long-range IT planning, with an emphasis on advocating for the needs of the area(s) supported; implements tracking and evaluation programs to assist in the accomplishment of established goals.
  • Participates in the documentation and implementation of policies and standard operating procedures consistent with those of the Credit Union to ensure its effective operation.  
  • Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems and makes relevant written recommendations as appropriate. 
  • Ability to develop requests for and evaluate proposals in reference to information services technology. 
  • Ability to provide strategic guidance and counsel to Management in the assessment and development of existing and/or proposed systems. 
  • Ensures industry standard security guidelines are applied within projects and throughout all aspects of the IT Department. 

 

System Availability 

  • Provides effective preventative and remedial system maintenance. 
  • Ensures back-up equipment is available as and when needed. 
  • Perform system back-up (operating system, applications and data) in accordance with standard procedure. 
  • Monitor and enforce security procedures to comply with the Credit Union’s standards. 

 

System Performance 

  • Performs periodic checks on equipment/system performance and effect performance tuning as necessary. 
  • Investigate root causes of member/user complaints and queries and take remedial action.

 

Web Design. 

  • Liaises with the management team to plan, create, and design the Credit Union’s web pages and other media platforms. 

 

System Operation 

  • Install computer equipment and related hardware components. 
  • Install applications software approved for use within the Credit Union, including operating system software. 
  • Perform routine data storage and retrieval and requested storage/retrieval based on documented requests from Management. 

 

System Maintenance 

  • Schedules and conducts routine system checks and maintenance. 
  • Document issues and solutions

 

Communication/Reporting & Records Management 

  • Prepares monthly report to the Operations Manager for submission on 5th working day of the month. 
  • Compose correspondence as directed or on own initiative for the Operations Manager’s signature. 

 

Business Intelligence Reporting and Dashboard Development

  • Develop and manage BI solutions.
  • Provide BI reports and dashboards through the application life cycle.
  • Collaborate with business users.

 

Other

  • Perform any other duties as directed by the Operations Manager or emanating from the inherent responsibilities of the positions. 
  • Always promote and project the best image of the Credit Union. 
  • Compliance with the Society’s policies and procedures and the regulations of other external governing bodies.

 

Required Technical Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

 

Minimum

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification (e.g., Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE Server 2016) or CCNA.
  • Qualified as a Microsoft office specialist (MOS).

 

Experience:

Minimum

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ of progressively responsible work experience within the banking and finance industry directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Experience in IT Project Management.
  • Experience with Sharetec databases will be an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in web design will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of system security (e.g., intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
