Investment Analyst - Port of Spain

The Investment Analyst researches and analyzes economic and market data to deliver valuation-based investment recommendations to internal and external clients.

Job Summary:

The Investment Analyst will be responsible for researching, collecting and analyzing economic and market information to assist both internal and external clients with making effective and profitable decisions. The analyst is proactive in providing investment recommendations based on in-depth valuation reports.

Key Responsibilities:

• Research, analyses and reports on local, regional and international markets, identifying investment opportunities, risk factors and assist in the creation of coverage reports that support client and portfolio decisions as well as management strategic decision-making process.
• Utilizes modern techniques and systems, research and analyses listed companies on the JSE, BSE and TTSE to support Proprietary and Client Portfolio investment decision making process. Utilizes modelling techniques to produce relative value and fundamental analysis and forecast of key value drivers to aid in the investment decision making process.
• Continuous analysis, asset screening and preparation of full coverage reports to support the tactical and strategic management of all discretionary portfolios.
• Monitor investment environment and recommend buy/sell/hold positions for equity and fixed income securities for the JMMB portfolio.
• Creates added value to the JMMB brand and fulfil JMMBITT’s commitment to public education on investment through writing and disseminating (e.g. publications, seminars) investment research analysis to a range of target audiences, both internal and external, local and international.
• Utilizing extensive knowledge of investment analysis to provide research and content support to brokerage, discretionary, and non-discretionary business lines.

Qualifications (Education & Certification):

• First Degree in Economics or Finance or related fields.
• Chartered Financial Analyst/ ACCA or in pursuit of the certification, or equivalent.
• Expert knowledge of investment research, equity valuations, sovereign credit and corporate credit analysis.
• Master’s degree qualification in Economics, Finance or related fields will be an asset

Experience:

• Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in investment or related economic research in a financial institution.
• Experience in pricing financial instruments, econometric modelling and forecasting techniques would be an asset.
• Extensive knowledge of the macroeconomic environment, financial instruments and financial markets
• Working knowledge of financial sector laws, regulations, ethics and professional jargon. In-depth understanding of the local financial sector and exposure to international capital markets.
