Instructional Design Specialist

The Instructional Design Specialist will play a key role in supporting HLSCC’s mission to provide high-quality, student-centered learning experiences. This position is responsible for designing, developing, and evaluating instructional materials and courses for various delivery.

The Specialist will collaborate closely with faculty, academic leaders, and E-Learning Manager to integrate pedagogical best practices, innovative teaching strategies, and effective use of technology to enhance student learning outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Design & Course Development

• Collaborate with faculty to design, develop, and revise curriculum and instructional materials for in-person, hybrid, and online courses.
• Apply evidence-based instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, Backward Design, Universal Design for Learning).
• Apply best practices in designing for accessibility and inclusive pedagogy.
• Ensure alignment of course objectives, assessments, and learning activities with institutional and accreditation standards.
• Support the integration of inclusive and accessible teaching practices for diverse learners.
• Develop templates, guides, and resources to support consistent and high-quality course design across modalities.
• Stay current with emerging trends, research, and technologies in instructional design and online learning.

Technology Integration

• Provide expertise in the use of the College’s Learning Management System
• Assist in the integration and pedagogical application of instructional technologies (e.g., LMS tools, videos, interactive media, simulations).

Faculty Development & Support

• Train and support faculty in adopting new technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
• Deliver workshops, training sessions, and one-on-one consultations to strengthen faculty teaching effectiveness.

Quality Assurance & Evaluation

• Support quality assurance efforts through the application of quality frameworks (e.g., Quality Matters, OSCQR).
• Participate in ongoing evaluation and revision of courses and programs based on student feedback, learning analytics, and faculty input.
• Recommend continuous improvement strategies for academic programmes and course delivery.
