Position Summary:      The in-house legal counsel will be part of Parkland’s dynamic legal team.  This is a unique opportunity to support a broad range of commercial activities and business lines across the business.

 

Principle Accountabilities:      Work closely with the General Counsel, other members of the Parkland Legal team, senior executives and internal business partners on a number of critical and time-sensitive matters, including:

 

  • Draft, negotiate, review and advise on a range of legal contracts and transactions in support of the business, including supply and distribution contracts, leases, operator agreements, corporate governance, mergers and acquisition related and other agreements.
  • Give accurate and timely advice to executives in a variety of legal areas affecting the business (labor and employment law, corporate, real estate, commercial, environmental, finance… etc.)
  • Advising business partners on and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations affecting the business.
  • Offer proactive advice to the business teams on risk management and mitigation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and policies
  • Liaising with and supervising outside counsel
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of changes to or implementation of legislation relevant to the petroleum industry.
  • Work closely with various departments across various countries in the Caribbean, the US and Canada to support business initiatives
  • Any other specific matters and special projects as requested by the General Counsel

Qualification Requirements:

  • 5+ years’ relevant experience as a licensed attorney in a law firm and/or corporate legal department.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in at least one of the jurisdictions where the Sol Group operates.
  • Knowledge of legal issues, industry standards, and government regulations related to the petroleum industry.
  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with General Counsel and other members of the Legal Team as well as with all levels of management.
  • Enthusiastic, responsive to client concerns and requests and committed to providing high quality legal service to internal clients.
  • Project management skills including the ability to work on various projects and prioritize accordingly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prepared to travel within the region on Group business, if necessary.
  • Previous experience in petroleum distribution operations is preferable and will be highly considered.

Other Information:

In addition to basic salary the successful applicant shall receive applicable job grade allowances and be eligible to participate in The Sol Group Pension Scheme and its non-contributory Group Health and Life Insurance Scheme.
