IT Security Specialist

The selected candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing safety measures and controls, ensuring that all members of staff are adequately trained as required in the domain of IT security.

JOB SUMMARY:

The IT Security Specialist will report to the Chief Information Officer. The selected candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing safety measures and controls, ensuring that all members of staff are adequately trained as required in the domain of IT security.  The IT Security Specialist will also be responsible for monitoring network activity and applications to identify any vulnerabilities and act on these for prompt resolution. He/she shall proactively remove known weaknesses, anticipate requirements, and ensure network elements and applications are at the latest required patch levels.  The incumbent will monitor for any privacy breaches across all the IT-related services and prevent, where possible, any malware threats with urgency.  He/she will make appropriate recommendations to improve IT Security across all applications and the network environments.

KEY DELIVERABLES: -

• Security Management:
• Analyses IT specifications to assess security risks, evaluate trends, anticipate requirements and implement security improvements;
• Monitors and utilizes intrusion detection systems and security tools for the identification of suspicious and malicious activities and inadequate security across the network (e.g., analyses network traffic, vulnerability scans, identification of computer viruses, unauthorized user activity), which may compromise the integrity and availability of systems;
• Assists in technical and forensic investigations in response to threats and incidents and participates in the development and implementation of solutions to mitigate and eliminate IT Security risks;
• Reports recognized or potential Information Security threats and other Information Security issues;
• Demonstrates understanding of security and controls policies, processes, and procedures through application in situations where security consultations are requested;
• Assists in consultations regarding security and controls architecture;
• Provides guidance on security and controls within the network and with online technology and applications; and
• Identifies areas of risk in technology-related projects where security requirements cannot be fully addressed within the required timeframe of the project.
• Business Continuity:
• Designs and implements safety measures and data recovery plans as part of the overall business and disaster recovery plan;
• Performs periodic self-audits, tests and reviews of the Information Security program to ensure that systems are operating as authorized/accredited and that conditions have not changed; and
• Collaborates with stakeholders within the organization to improve existing best practices, correct ineffective practices, and address security gaps as needed

• Ensures effective and efficient utilization of assigned resources toward achieving operational goals and standards.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:-

You will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering (Computer Systems major) or Computer Science or related qualification with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar role and proven experience as an IT Security Specialist.

You must know about patching, firewalls and intrusion detection/prevention systems and demonstrate familiarity with security frameworks, security standards, risk assessment, risk management methodologies, critical infrastructure and cryptographic protocols
