Job Summary
The IT & Security Officer will be responsible for managing the organizationâs IT infrastructure while ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all information systems. This role combines hands-on technical support with a strong focus on implementing and maintaining security best practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. IT Infrastructure & Operations
- Install, configure, and maintain hardware and software systems
- Troubleshoot and manage network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, access points)
- Monitor system performance and ensure optimal uptime
- Perform system updates, patches, and upgrades
- Manage backups and ensure data integrity
- Support disaster recovery planning and testing
- Administer enterprise systems (Microsoft 365, cloud platforms, ERP systems)
2. User Support
- Provide technical support for hardware, software, and network issues
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and authentication systems
3. Information Security & Data Protection
- Monitor network and system security
- Support audits, risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration testing
- Assist with security incident response and analysis
- Deliver and support security awareness initiatives
- Implement data protection measures (classification, encryption, DLP)
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., Jamaica Data Protection Act)
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Track incidents and requests via IT service management tools
- Maintain accurate IT documentation and asset records
- Generate reports on system performance and security incidents
5. Other Duties
- Collaborate across teams to support business technology needs
- Assist with IT procurement and budgeting
- Stay current with emerging threats and IT best practices
đ Education & Experience
- Bachelorâs degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field
- Minimum of 3 yearsâ experience in IT systems administration and/or information security
- Relevant certifications such as:
- CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+
- ITIL Foundation
Skills & Competencies
- Strong networking and systems administration knowledge
- Experience with Windows and Linux environments
- Familiarity with virtualization (Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange, SharePoint, Entra ID, Intune)
- Knowledge of IT service management and monitoring tools
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work both independently and in teams
