RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSISTING IN THE IMPLEMENTATION AND MONITORING OF AN INFECTION CONTROL PROCGRAMME AT THE NORTH-CENTRAL REGIONAL HEALTH AUTHORITY.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the following position at the North-Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA):
Infection Control Nurse
The incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the implementation and monitoring of an Infection Control Programme in the North Central Regional Health Authority.
Main Responsibilities:
- Detects, identifies, analyzes, collate sand quantifies any occurring infections.
- Investigates, counsels and manages the process of accidental exposures to staff, patients and visitors.
- Orients new staff about the policies and guidelines related to infection prevention and control in the health facility.
- Continues in house training and re-training of staff members to keep health facility staff abreast of current and relevant information on infection prevention and control.
- Writes monthly reports on the surveillance findings and the Infection Control activities.
- Distributes reports to Heads of Department in the Hospital and the North Central Regional Health Authority’s Infection Control Committee.
- Ensures staff immunization status and medical examinations are updated as necessary.
- Ensures all areas of the institutions are adequately equipped with the necessary controls such as: hand washing stations, sharps disposable bins, personal protective equipment, etc.
- Arranges and conduct Infection Control Committee meetings.
- Monitors and ensure safe patient care practices.
- Monitors staff health and safety in the workplace along with members of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department.
- Performs research to upgrade the quality of Infection Prevention and Control service.
- Consults with other members of the Quality department.
- Performs other related duties as directed by the organisational relationship.
Minimum Qualifications, Training and Experience:
- Five (5) years experience in the clinical area as a Registered Nurse.
- Registered with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago.
- Formal training in Basic Epidemiology, Basic Microbiology, Policy Making, Management or Nursing Administration and Infection Control.
* Certificates acquired at foreign universities MUST be supported by certified transcripts as well as evidence that the completed programme is accredited in Trinidad and Tobago
