Our client, Caribbean Airlines is seeking to fill the position of Human Resources Officer (HRO). This position is based in Kingston, Jamaica.

This position is offered as a one (1) year contract in the first instance.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The HRO will provide a full spectrum of HR Services and programs, as well as Administrative Services, linked to organizational needs and objectives.  The incumbent will work closely with Senior Manager, Line Management and Team members, to support the achievement of organizational goals and objectives through the development, implementation, and management of HR activities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages the recruitment and selection process for line departments, as per company guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Conducts new-employee induction sessions, orientations and ensures pre-employment and security background checks are completed within the agreed timeframe.
  • Ensures the accurate and timely preparation of all relevant payroll notices and reports.
  • Manages staff benefits and compensation, and entitlements so that they are consistent with corporate strategic goals. 
  • Monitors absenteeism reports and ensures the appropriate correspondence is issued to employees who have excessive tardiness or absenteeism problems. Ensures reports on vacation, sick, personal day and holiday use are dispatched to payroll and scheduling
  • Manages the HR service delivery to employees and departments in accordance with established SLAs and policy guidelines. Ensures timely handling of queries, employee requests, employee notifications and other administrative requirements
  • Monitors that employee performance and probationary assessments are completed within the agreed timeframes
  • Supports employee relations and industrial relations processes and activities, ensuring disputes and grievances are escalated appropriately and agreed resolutions managed and implemented.
  • Monitors employee retirement and assists with the organizing of pre-retirement discussions and post-retirement support including tracking and handling of retirement health premium payments.
  • Assists with the management of employee injuries, accidents, and illness in accordance with prescribed policy.  Manages the delivery of medical attention and care, and ensures all medical matters are properly documented and communicated to HSSE.
  • Supports the Medical Unit and manages replenishment of pharmaceutical stocks and supplies for Aircraft Medical Kits and Medical Unit.
  • Assists with the coordination and administration of the Pension Plans in accordance with applicable legislative and regulatory frameworks
  • Manages the Mailroom Function for efficient handling of material in Kingston and between Kingston and Montego Bay. 
  • Manages employees’ payroll related queries and issues.
  • Performs other duties outside the normal scope of responsibilities that may be required to maximize efficiency, productivity, teamwork, customer relations and enhance the entire operations of the company

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to Human Resources (Business Administration, Industrial Relations or Personnel Administration). 
  • A minimum of five (5) years of Generalist Human Resources experience, with at least three (3) years at a supervisory level, or as an HR Business Partner.
  • Prior operational exposure to a range of HR and general business disciplines and ability to support the development of strategic initiatives as well as implementing processes and operational solutions.
  • SHRM-SCP or SHRM-CP or similar professional certification will be considered an asset
