The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing comprehensive HR support across all functional areas.

JOB SUMMARY

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing comprehensive HR support across all functional areas, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training and development, and HR administration. The role ensures compliance with applicable labour laws in Trinidad & Tobago and promotes effective people management practices aligned with organisational objectives.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • A relevant Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Law or related discipline.

 

EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a generalist HR role with at least 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Experience in both unionised and non-unionised environments is an asset

 

ANY EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE.

 

 

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Recruitment & Selection

  • Coordinate end-to-end recruitment processes, including job postings, shortlisting, interviewing, and onboarding
  • Prepare job descriptions and advertisements
  • Liaise with hiring managers to identify staffing needs
  • Conduct reference checks and support selection decisions

 Employee Relations & Industrial Relations

  • Provide guidance on employee relations matters, including disciplinary procedures and grievance handling
  • Support investigations and ensure adherence to principles of natural justice
  • Assist in managing conflict resolution and maintaining a positive work environment
  • Ensure compliance with labour legislation and company policies

Performance Management

  • Support implementation of performance appraisal systems
  • Monitor performance review cycles and provide guidance to managers
  • Assist with development plans and performance improvement processes

 Training & Development

  • Identify training needs and coordinate learning initiatives
  • Support employee development programmes and succession planning
  • Maintain training records and evaluate effectiveness of programmes
  • Provide coaching to HR employees
  • Conduct training as needed on HR topics

HR Administration & Records Management

  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records
  • Prepare HR reports and analytics (e.g., turnover, absenteeism)
  • Ensure proper documentation of all HR transactions
  • Manage HR information systems (HRIS)
  • Supervise subordinate HR employees

Compensation & Benefits Support

  • Assist with payroll coordination and benefits administration
  • Respond to employee queries regarding compensation and benefits
  • Support salary reviews and job evaluation exercises

 Policy Development & Compliance

  • Assist in the development and review of HR policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with organisational policies and national labour laws
  • Support HR audits and reporting requirements
