Housekeeping Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Housekeeping Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the housekeeping department. They are responsible for ensuring cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities. The supervisor leads a team of housekeeping staff, coordinates cleaning schedules, and maintains high standards of hygiene and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, train, and support housekeeping staff including room attendants, cleaners, and laundry personnel.

  • Inspect guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house to ensure cleanliness and compliance with hotel or facility standards.

  • Assign daily duties to staff and ensure schedules are followed efficiently.

  • Report maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate department.

  • Ensure all cleaning equipment and supplies are properly used and maintained.

  • Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies and linens; order replacements as needed.

  • Respond promptly to guest requests, complaints, and other issues related to housekeeping.

  • Ensure adherence to health and safety standards, including proper use of PPE and chemicals.

  • Prepare performance reports and assist in evaluating staff performance.

  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (some employers may prefer an associate or hospitality-related degree).

  • Proven experience in housekeeping, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role.

  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper storage, and housekeeping best practices.

  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations in hospitality or institutional settings.

  • Good time management and organizational skills

  • Ability to handle complaints and resolve conflicts

  • Basic computer skills (for scheduling, inventory, and reporting)
