Job Summary

The Heavy Duty Driver operates assigned heavy duty vehicles and responds to calls which require going on the road to complete assigned tasks including providing minor mechanical assistance. The provision of exceptional customer service consistently, is a fundamental requirement of the role.

 

Responsibilities Summary

  • Maintain ongoing communications with the company’s Dispatcher; both incoming and outgoing.
  • Drive to locations as directed, interact with the customer to ascertain the nature of the problem and advise customers on the recommended course of action and/or suggest an alternative course of action.
  • Communicate with customers about their vehicle questions and queries in a professional manner.
  • Perform roadside vehicle diagnostics and safely provide minor mechanical services including jump-starting vehicles, changing tires, and reconnecting vehicle parts.
  • Connect damaged vehicles to the assigned truck, secure the load safely and accurately, and towing it to the designation location.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to the supervisor in a timely manner after each assignment in accordance with company policy.
  • Check the road worthiness of assigned vehicles and carrying out any maintenance and repairs within your knowledge, skills and expertise; report vehicle issues that require further work.
  • Ensure that the vehicles are kept clean.
  • Perform other driving duties per assigned vehicles during vehicle downtime and between regular duties as assigned.
  • Understand and comply with all procedures, processes, and regulations that affects the department, and perform tasks accurately, fairly and in accordance with company policy and the laws of Barbados.

 

Requirements

  • A minimum of ten years driving experience of which five years must have been as a Heavy Duty or Tow Truck driver.
  • Must be the holder of a valid commercial/heavy duty driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Advanced knowledge of road safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with GPS software and navigation tools.
  • Excellent physical dexterity.
  • Experience towing with a good safety record.
  • Must be available weekends and evenings and able to work extended shifts when required.
  • Willingness to travel to different locations.
  • Excellent communication skills that reflect understanding, clarity, accuracy, and courtesy.
