The incumbent is responsible for evaluating and ensuring compliance with Health and Safety standards outlined by both local and brand regulations, as well as the Occupational Safety and Health Act. This role focuses on proactively reducing risks & sustaining safe working environments & practices.

Position:                                        Health and Safety Officer

 

Reporting Relationship:           This position reports directly to the Quality Assurance/Health and Safety Manager.

 

Summary:                                    

The incumbent is responsible for evaluating and ensuring compliance with Health and Safety standards outlined by both local and brand regulations, as well as the Occupational Safety and Health Act. This role focuses on proactively reducing risks and sustaining safe working environments and practices.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compliance Monitoring
    • Ensure compliance with local and brand health and safety regulations
    • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance across all related locations
    • Recommend corrective actions and follow up on their implementation
  • Policy Implementation & Compliance
    • Support the implementation and maintenance of health and safety policies and procedures.
    • Verify and monitor organizational compliance with legal and regulatory health and safety requirements
  • Risk Assessments
    • Develop risk assessments by identifying potential hazards and implement control measures to mitigate risk
    • Carry out risk assessments for various tasks, processes, and work areas
  • Health & Safety Training
    • Support training activities for staff on workplace safety, PPE usage and emergency procedures
    • Coordinate training on health and safety practices, including fire safety, first aid, safety wardens
  • Incident Reporting & Investigation
    • Investigate root causes for workplace near misses, incidents and accidents and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for corrective actions
  • Emergency Preparedness
    • Ensure emergency response plans are up to date and conduct regular drills
  • Record Keeping
    • Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, training, and safety statistics.
    • Prepare monthly reports for management review
  • Stakeholder Engagement/Regulatory Liaison
    • Serve as the point of contact during health and safety inspections or audits by local authorities
    • Assist with the resolution of health and safety non- compliances raised by inspectors, safety committees and internal management teams
    • Serve as a point of contact for all health and safety-related issues
    • Promote a culture of safety within the organization

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Nebosh Certification or other recognized HSE qualifications
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a similar role/industry
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
  • Additional qualifications in Science or the QSR industry will be an asset
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Growth mindset
