Job Summary

The job incumbent plays a vital role in promoting and supporting the company’s commitment to the development and management of a comprehensive health and safety program to maintain a safe and compliant work environment. The Health & Safety Officer plays a key part in protecting our people, improving our safety culture and helping us meet operational and regulatory standards.

 Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses and site audits to identify, mitigate and monitor hazards.
  • Maintain and update emergency response registers, signage and equipment.
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations and track corrective/preventative action items.
  • Deliver site induction training and maintain accurate health and safety training records.
  • Assist with 5S implementation, audits and follow-up activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, databases and safety metrics to ensure readiness for OSHA and compliance inspections and audits.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a BSc Occupational Health & Safety or Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Train the Trainer Certification would be considered an asset.
  • Detailed Knowledge of OSHA Act & familiarity with Fire Services Act; Chapter 35:50.
  • Knowledge of First Aid/ CPR.
  • A minimum of three (3) years' experience in a similar role.
  • Working knowledge of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) - 450001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems) & Food  Safety System Certification (FSSC)– 22000 (Food Safety).
  • Experience in the use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software like Microsoft Great Plains would be considered an asset.
