The HSE Officer will conduct risk assessments, inspections, audits, and training, while supporting incident investigations and implementing corrective measures to minimize workplace hazards.

Position Summary

The HSE Officer is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. This role ensures compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, company HSE policies, and industry best practices. The HSE Officer will conduct risk assessments, inspections, audits, and training, while supporting incident investigations and implementing corrective measures to minimize workplace hazards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement, monitor, and maintain the company’s HSE management system in compliance with local regulations (OSHA/OSH Act).
  • Conduct routine site inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and HSE training sessions for employees and contractors.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, prepare reports, and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, documentation, and statistics for regulatory and internal reporting.
  • Monitor use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce compliance with safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with site supervisors and project managers to ensure HSE requirements are integrated into daily operations.
  • Participate in emergency response planning, drills, and crisis management activities.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and external auditors during inspections or audits.
  • Promote a positive safety culture by encouraging employee engagement and continuous improvement in HSE performance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Health & Environment, Environmental Science, or related field (BSc OSHE preferred).
  • NEBOSH/IOSH certification or equivalent is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 - 4 years of experience in an HSE role, preferably within the oil & gas, construction, or manufacturing sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of Trinidad & Tobago OSH Act, environmental regulations, and industry HSE standards.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and data tracking.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and adapt to changing operational needs.
