WHAT YOU WILL DO: Christel House Jamaica is seeking a passionate, student-centred HFLE Teacher to deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate instruction to students in Grades 4–8. This is a permanent position. The HFLE Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing the HFLE curriculum in accordance with established national standards, working collaboratively with school leadership, teachers, and support staff to contribute to a safe, positive, and inclusive school environment that supports the holistic development of every student.
SALARY RANGE: JMD $3,238,341 – 3,976,335 per annum
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualification and Experience:
First Degree in Education, Health and Family Life Education (HFLE), Social Studies, Human and Social Biology, Guidance and Counselling, or an equivalent qualification
Trained Teacher Certification
At least three (3) years of classroom teaching experience, preferably including delivery of the HFLE curriculum in a Jamaican school
Diploma in Health and Family Life Education would be an asset
Required Skills and Specialised Techniques
Strong knowledge of the national HFLE curriculum and life skills-based teaching methodologies
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats at all levels
Must be considerate, sympathetic, non-judgmental and able to create a supportive space for students
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum Delivery and Instruction
Plan, prepare and deliver engaging HFLE lessons aligned with the Jamaica MOESYI curriculum
Use a variety of life skills-based instructional strategies to maximise student engagement and learning outcomes
Develop and adapt lesson plans, resources, and teaching materials to meet the needs of diverse learners
Integrate themes of personal development, decision-making, social skills, and wellbeing into instruction
Create and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment
Student Assessment and Support
Design, administer, and evaluate formative and summative assessments in line with school and national standards
Monitor student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback to support learning
Identify students who may need additional support and refer appropriately to school support services
Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, attendance, and assessment documentation
Lead the preparation process for SBAs for all HFLE students
School Community Collaboration
Collaborate with classroom teachers, school counsellors, and support staff to support students’ holistic development
Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and caregivers regarding student progress and wellbeing
Support the school administration in developing programmes, attend faculty meetings, and participate in parent-teacher discussions
Promote and uphold the Christel House model, values, and culture throughout all activities
Communication & Collaboration
Build and maintain positive relationships with parents, guardians, colleagues, and stakeholders
Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, and student support teams to improve student outcomes
Participate actively in staff meetings, professional development sessions, school events, and departmental activities
Contribute positively to the culture, mission, and continuous improvement of Christel House Jamaica
SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB
May be required to work beyond normal working hours during school events, meetings, and special activities
Participation in extracurricular, enrichment, and school-related activities may be required
Participation in professional development and staff training initiatives is required
