Our Client, a general insurance company with operations in the Caribbean, is seeking a Group Investment Accountant. This is a permanent position based in Port of Spain.
GROUP INVESTMENT ACCOUNTANT

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Group Investment Accountant reports to the Group Finance Leadership Team. He/she is the lead person for all technical accounting matters relating to IFRS 9 and collaborate with the Business Heads on more complex accounting matters for both the non-Life and Life business. Key customers include the Chief Financial Officer, Regional Financial Controllers, the Actuarial Team, Investment Team and Regional and Territory Finance Managers/Accounants.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee and manage the IFRS 9/investment accounting and reporting processes. This includes updating investment related data and reconciliations, assist Governance Risk and Control (GRC) in the regulatory pledging of investments and oversee cash receipt of interest and principal payments
- Oversee and manage the IFRS 9 model inclusive of suggesting and implementing model enhancements and improvements
- Manage the process of investment, ECL and Amortized Cost calculations and postings in the General Ledger
- Keep abreast with changes to the international accounting standards (IFRS) and ensure the Group’s compliance with same
- Ensure proper investment accounting controls are in place and operating effectively
- Communicate investment portfolio information to key stakeholders
- Manage the investment variance analysis process including documentation of findings
- Understand and provide interpretation of new accounting pronouncements in order to assist management in assessing financial and operational implications related to investments
- Prepare technical accounting memorandums for significant transactions and support the review process with finance management
- Preparation of financial statement disclosures, position papers and other reports as and when required
- Support with all Regulatory reporting requirements where necessary
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
- Qualified as a Financial Professional in accounting or finance discipline, with at least 3-5 years' post qualification work experience in accounting/finance with emphasis in the investment accounting in financial institutions
- Demonstrated ability to respond to urgent requests and changing priorities on a daily basis.
- Ability to manage a complex process within resource and time constraints
- Excellent financial technical skills
- Proven ability to deliver high quality analysis, recommend solutions, challenge issues with a critical mind-set
- Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and analysis
- Desire to pursue innovation and improvement
- Has strong interpersonal, communication, and organization skills.
- Fluency in all aspects of English is required to be able to manage all aspects of this role
