The Group CIO will be the architect of capital strategy across this diverse ecosystem, optimizing risk and return for the entire organization while ensuring each entity has the capital required to execute its strategic plan.
Position Summary
The Group Chief Investment Officer (CIO) is a pivotal executive role responsible for the end-to-end capital management and investment strategy across the entire group of companies. This includes:
- Managing and overseeing the traditional investment portfolio for the group's core assets;
- Leading the process of sourcing, executing, and managing direct private equity and strategic investments on behalf of the group;
- Capital Allocation & Treasury: Acting as the central hub for capital allocation, liquidity management, and internal financing across all group companies;
- M&A and Corporate Development: Driving growth initiatives, including acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures for any of the group's entities.
This role requires a unique blend of institutional investing acumen, corporate treasury expertise, and strategic vision to navigate the vastly different financial profiles and missions of each business unit.
Key Responsibilities
The Group Chief Investment Officer will spearhead the following:

- Develop and implement a cohesive Group-level Investment Policy Statement (IPS) that balances the objectives of growth, yield, and liquidity.
- Determine optimal capital allocation across the group's entities, evaluating investment opportunities against strategic priorities (e.g., funding a new university campus vs. a new PE fund commitment vs. expanding microfinance lending capital).
- Serve as a key advisor to the Group CEO and Board on all matters related to capital structure, risk capital, and strategic investments.
- Deal Sourcing & Execution: Lead the investment process for the group's private equity activities: sourcing, due diligence, financial modeling, valuation, negotiation, and deal structuring.
- Portfolio Management: Actively manage the group's direct investment portfolio, representing the group on the boards of portfolio companies and driving value creation,
- Fund Strategy: Advise on the strategy for the fledgling private equity firm.
- Centralized Treasury Function: In collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), manage centralized cash and liquidity for the entire group, forecast aggregate cash flow needs and ensure optimal placement of cash balances.
- Internal Capital Market: Manage internal loans and capital injections between profitable entities and those requiring growth capital;
- Risk Management: Hedge against interest rate, currency, and other financial risks exposure across the group;
- Establish a robust reporting framework to track the financial performance of all investments and the capital health of each operating company;
- Provide consolidated and entity-level reports to the Group Executive Chairman and Board, clearly articulating performance, risk exposure, and strategic recommendations.
- Navigate the complex regulatory environments of each sector – Higher Education, Real Estate, Financial Services and Private Equity;
- Ensure all investment and capital allocation activities comply with internal governance policies and external regulations.
- Evaluate whether the company SPECRUM Capital Partners, SCP should be used as a strategic tool for the group. Should it be the broker for assets the PE firm is looking to buy or sell?
- Consider direct real estate investment as a capital allocation option. Should the group start buying and holding income-producing properties (e.g., student housing, office buildings instead of just brokering them?
- Identify and capture synergies between the brokerage and every other entity in the group.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related advanced degree.
- CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience with a proven track record across the following areas: private equity (direct investing), corporate development/M&A, corporate treasury, real estate and investment management.
- Must have experience with the end-to-end execution of direct private equity or corporate M&A transactions.
- Exceptional financial modeling and valuation expertise, with experience modeling various business types (cash-flow positive BPO, loan-based Microfinance, asset-heavy University, high-growth PE targets).
- Demonstrated experience in capital allocation and managing internal treasury functions for a multi-entity organization.
- Experience working in a holding company or family office environment with diverse investments.
- Experience with fundraising or investor relations.
