            Job Summary

The incumbent is responsible for providing ancillary services to include providing proper maintenance and ensuring the general cleanliness of the grounds – lawns, shrubs, trees, outdoor potted plants, car parks, driveways, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform all ground maintenance activities to include:
• watering all outdoor plants
• grooming of trees, hedges and shrubs
• removing parasitic plants and lines from plants and fencing
• mowing and raking lawn
• preparing debris for disposal on a regular basis
• washing/sweeping the grounds, driveway, walkway, stairway and car park, etc.
• marking and labelling of car space in the car park.

• Inspect buildings and cobwebs the exterior of all the College buildings;

• Wash and clean, from the outside, the windows of the rooms on the hostel

• At the request of the Safety, Security and Maintenance Manager, remove to Store Room bulk goods purchased;

• Assist with the construction of display boards, props as well as the removal and storage of same.

• Set-up venues etc. with the relevant chairs and table needed for functions, or otherwise.

• Use chemical/insecticide, etc. as well as power equipment to effectively perform duties;

• Keep and maintain an inventory of all types of equipment assigned in the performance of duties.

• Wash daily, motor vehicle of the Chief Executive Officer, and senior managers.

• Wash daily company vehicles.

• Perform any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.

AUTHORITY TO:

• Advise Supervisor of items needed (new or repair) in order to efficiently perform duties;
• Clean and storage the assigned equipment

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA:

• All items relocated to facilitate a function are returned to their designated area
• Equipment and tools are properly maintained and secured

Minimum Qualification

(a)          Specific Knowledge Required to Start:

• Sound knowledge of ground maintenance – plant care techniques, landscape
• Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance in respect of ground and cutting equipment – lawnmower, machete, etc.

(b)          Qualifications & Experience

• All Age/ Secondary level completion

(c)          Required Skills & Specialized Techniques

• Ability to read and write
• Excellent organizational skills
• High degree of flexibility
• High degree of independence of thought and responsibility
• Good interpersonal, human relations and communication skills;
• Must be customer focussed
• Able to work unsupervised
• Able to follow spoken and written instructions
• Ability to measure out cleansing materials accurately
• Ability to use a variety of plant chemicals, e.g., fertilizer, insecticide/parasiticide in a safe manner
• Attention to detail
• Be reasonable fit

Working Conditions

• Manual/physical efforts – carrying supplies, bending, stretching, walking across the campus
• Outdoor environment – inclement weather, sun, dust, etc.
• Occasional irregular hours (night and weekends) to work at special functions/events
