Graphic Designer/ Publication Designer
The Planning Institute of Jamaica invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Graphic Designer/Publication Designer on a fixed term contractual basis.
Overview
The incumbent will support the Corporate Marketing and Communication Division in the design and production of high-quality publications and visual materials, ensuring timely delivery of engaging and brand-aligned content for both print and digital use.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and format text, images, and graphics to ensure clarity, accuracy, and visual appeal
- Develop page layouts with appropriate proportion, spacing, and design flow
- Create designs that enhance editorial content while maintaining brand consistency and publication standards
- Prepare print-ready files for publication in accordance with technical and printing specifications
- Adapt layouts for digital formats, ensuring compatibility across platforms and devices
- Collaborate with editors, writers, and production teams to deliver high-quality outputs, and ensure brand consistency in marketing products
- Design visual content for social media, presentations, print materials, and other communication materials
- Edit and enhance images for use across print and digital media
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Visual Arts or related fields
- Minimum 2 years relevant experience in graphic design or publication design
Required Skills/Experience/Attributes
- Proficiency in industry-standard design and publishing software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Strong understanding of typography, colour theory, and design principles
- Experience in print production and digital publishing workflows
- Attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy in text and formatting
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Background in editorial design (e.g., reports, magazines, books, or newsletters)
- Familiarity with prepress processes and digital publishing standards
- Adaptability to shifting priorities and project requirements
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
