Our client, Aero Services Credit Union (ASCU) is seeking to fill the position of General Manager. This is a two (2) year renewable contract.

JOB SUMMARY

The General Manager reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the cost-effective achievement of both strategic and operational goals and objectives of ASCU. The General Manager is primarily accountable for the execution of policies, strategies, business and operational plans as well as the decision-making initiatives.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Management

  • Leads in the development, implementation and achievement of the strategic goals and plans in addition to directing and guiding operational performance.
  • Develops suitable strategic external and internal relationships in a manner that fully leverages ASCU’s business capabilities, products and services.
  • Leads and directs the activities of ASCU to ensure the best possible corporate positioning in the market to effectively secure sustainability and continued profitability.

Finance, Accounting and Risk Management

  • Develops annual budget, obtains approval from the Board of Directors and manages the overall budget, measuring against actual performance.
  • Manages the overall External Audit process and ensures the appropriate actions are undertaken to address audit concerns.
  • Evaluates and mitigates competitive and other risks in the operating environment.

Board Reporting

  • Actively collaborates with the Board of Directors in evaluating, developing and implementing Credit Union policy changes.
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly reports for the Board of Directors to enable effective, informed decision making.
  • Leads in ensuring all governance issues are adhered to by the Board, Executive Team and Management.
  • Handles special projects as assigned from time to time by the Board of Directors.

Organisational Performance and Management

  • Reviews the organisation’s performance in keeping with the approved Strategic Plan and takes action to address deviations.
  • Delivers on pre-determined profitability and performance targets established by the Board of Directors and Annual General Meeting.
  • Influences appropriate action by management team to deliver in their respective areas in keeping with established and agreed performance targets.
  • Ensures that recommendations from audit reports and regulatory bodies are implemented to protect the credit union’s assets from mismanagement and fraud.

Culture and Change Management

  • Influences and integrates a culture of service excellence internally as well as externally to all stakeholders and cooperative activities.
  • Leads in the planning, implementation and coordination of organisational change strategies, initiatives, goals and objectives.
  • Takes action to ensure change initiatives are embedded in all organisational systems and processes ensuring service excellence and continuous improvement. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • B.Sc. in Management or Business Studies from an accredited institution.
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or other related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Ten (10) years of progressive managerial experience with at least five (5) years at a senior managerial level.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting and financial management.
  • Experience in working in a unionized environment.
  • Functioned in an environment of customer service excellence.
