GUIDANCE & COUNSELLING OFFICER

GUIDANCE & COUNSELLING OFFICER
(TURKEYEN AND TAIN)
Requirement:
- Master Degree in Counselling or Social Work or Psychology with a specialisation in Counselling OR
- Master Degree in Education with a specialisation in Guidance & Counselling or School Counselling OR
- A first degree in Social Work, Psychology or Education with at least 5 years relevant work experience and demonstrated proficiency in Counselling.
Experience:
Relevant substantial work experience with adults preferably in an educational institution
Special Knowledge/Skills/Attributes:
- Knowledge of student development and life span/human development theory
- Proficiency in treating presentations of sexual abuse and identity formation issues
- Proficiency in problem identification, treatment planning and various therapeutic counseling approaches and interventions
- Knowledge of crisis management procedures
- Knowledge of current educational trends
- Knowledge of relevant national legislation (e.g domestic violence act)
- Excellent communication, public relations, interpersonal, planning and organisation skills
- Excellent analytical skills.
Major Performance Responsibilities & Duties
Professional Support Services
- Deliver assessment of academic, organizational and mental health issues
- Provide students, faculty and staff with individual counselling services as indicated by their expressed and/or observed needs
- Reinforce a systematic process to Guidance and Counselling and supplemental resources off-campus
- Assist with intelligence and psychological testing as required
- Maintain records and participate in the collection and analysis of relevant statistics as part of the evaluation of the counselling service
- Liaises closely with and provide appropriate support and guidance to others involved in student welfare (e.g. Medex, UGSS, Assistant Deans)
Support Programming & Culture Development
- Assist in developing policy and procedures for crisis management and provide crisis counselling and consultation as required
- Co-ordinate with relevant Departments in the University and external agencies to develop and deliver education programmes on areas of mental health, social and emotional development and related health issues for faculty and staff (e.g stress management)
- Initiate new programmes and support existing ones that facilitate a positive, caring study and work environment
Professional Growth & Development
- Plan & deliver training modules and staff development workshops on relevant student support issues to Lecturers (e.g problem identification, referral to G&C Unit
- Participate in workshops, seminars and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills/professional growth in student support services relative to guidance and counselling
- Keep up-to-date with current national/international trends in mental health and wellness issues
Other duties: Any other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Anyone recruited from overseas will receive up to four (4) full economy air fares (i.e for self, spouse and two (2) unmarried children up to eighteen (18) years of age) from point of recruitment (as determined by the University regulations), limited removal expenses and a settling-in allowance.
Salary Scale: Guidance and Counselling Officer - UA 3: $260,987 - $379,346
Placement on Salary Scale would be dependent on qualification and post-qualification experience.
