GARDENER/ WATCHMAN

JOB DESCRIPTION

 A private resident is seeking to hire A Gardener/Watchman (or Caretaker/Security).  The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining the aesthetic, cleanliness, and safety of a property's grounds and building (home). They typically combine horticultural skills with security surveillance and general maintenance. 

 Core Responsibilities

• Gardening and Caretaking:
• Lawn care and plant maintenance
• Grounds Maintenance
• Equipment Maintenance: Cleaning and maintaining tools ( lawn mower, and hedge trimmer).
• Minor Repairs: Performing basic plumbing, electrical, or repair work (e.g., changing lightbulbs, unblocking drains).
• General Support: Assisting with moving furniture, heavy items, or deliveries.

•  Watchman Duties:
• Patrolling: Conducting regular patrols of the premises and perimeter fence to ensure security.
• Access Control: Monitoring entrances, verifying visitors, and controlling vehicle movement.
• Lock-up Procedures: Locking doors and windows and turning off lights at the end of the day.
• Safety Checks: Ensuring security lights are functional and checking for fire hazards.
• Other relevant duties as required

 Required Skills and Qualifications

• Experience: Proven experience in gardening and/or security/caretaking.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy manual labor, such as lifting, bending, kneeling, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Knowledge of plant care, and proper use of power tools/landscaping equipment an asset.
• Personal Qualities: Honesty, alertness, punctuality, and ability to follow instructions.
• Communication: Basic literacy and numeracy for reporting and, in some cases, using technology (e.g., WhatsApp).
• Person will be required to do a police record clearance

 Working Conditions

• Environment: Predominantly outdoors, with potential exposure to sun, rain, heat, or cold.
• Schedule: May involve flexible hours, including nights /overnight, weekends, and public holidays.
