VACANCY: FULL TIME MEDICAL PHYSICIAN (CONTRACT)

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Physician reports to the Executive Human Resource Manager and administers, directs and co-ordinates all activities of the Waterfront Clinic relative to the provision of health care and the promotion of the physical, mental and social well-being and health of persons employed by the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers, directs and co-ordinates all activities of the Waterfront Clinic relative to the provision of health care and the promotion of the physical, mental and social well-being and health of persons employed by the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago
  • Provides emergency medical service for all employees who are injured or become ill whilst on the job
  • Perform annual medical checkup on employees of the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago
  • Perform pre-employment assessment for potential employees of the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago
  • Perform medical assessments and issues medical certificates for Pre-Sea Marine and Periodic Fitness for Seafarers (vessel personnel) in compliance with maritime health regulations.
  • Conduct training medical assessment to determine fitness of employee for Training & Development for the required programme
  • Determine employee fitness to duty post medical certificates
  • Manage chronic illnesses that may affect work performance Monitor the working environment for any infectious diseases and development of management and prevention plan for the Port Authority
  • Diagnoses and treats diseases, disorders and injuries caused by industrial-related accidents
  • Identify workplace health hazards and recommend risk preventative measures
  • Participate in workplace risk assessment and health surveillance programmes
  • Participate in the development of occupational health policies and procedures
  • Conducting employee wellness and health education programs
  • Organize vaccination and screening programmes
  • Arranges for all necessary follow-up treatment of employees suffering from occupational injuries or occupational diseases and provides adequate medical care and rehabilitation of these employees
  • Monitor and follow up on employee's treatment that are referred to the external medical specialist
  • Prepares and secures medical records of all persons who are rendered attention at the Waterfront Clinic
  • Liaises on behalf of the Authority with other Medical Practitioners, Specialists and medical institutions in the procurement of services for injured persons
  • Conducts and or arranges on request for medical examinations to determine the suitability of personnel for employment/continued employment
  • Implements immunization programme as necessary
  • Supervises and/or directs personnel attached to the Waterfront Clinic, as necessary
  • Adheres to Statutory requirements in the Recording, Reporting and Publication of illness, diseases and injuries
  • Participate in occupational safety committees and meetings
  • Performed any other duties as assigned by the Manager and which can be reasonably expected of a Medical Practitioner

MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND WORKING EXPERIENCE

  • Must be registered Medical Practitioner with at least ten (10) years’ experience of Occupational Industrial Medicine environment
  • Possession of a recognized Medical Degree
  • Registration as a medical practitioner by the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago
  • Must be an approved medical practitioner under the Trinidad and Tobago Shipping (Medical Examination) Amendment Regulation 2002
  • Post graduate qualification in Occupation Medicine will be an asset
