Freezer Custodian

The Freezer Custodian – Domestic Freezer is responsible for the proper handling, storage, control, and physical care of all products stored in the domestic freezer, including the safe operation of forklifts within freezer and loading areas.

Salary range ($7500 plus incentives)

Job Summary:

The Freezer Custodian – Domestic Freezer is responsible for the proper handling, storage, control, and physical care of all products stored in the domestic freezer, including the safe operation of forklifts within freezer and loading areas. The role ensures that products are stored safely, rotated correctly, and issued accurately in accordance with company procedures, food safety standards, and domestic distribution requirements. This position plays a critical role in inventory accuracy, product integrity, equipment safety, and readiness for domestic dispatch.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Domestic Freezer Storage & Handling

(a) Receive products into the domestic freezer based on approved documentation.

(b) Store products in designated freezer locations according to storage plans.

(c) Maintain correct stacking, palletizing, and spacing to prevent damage and ensure proper airflow.

(d) Monitor freezer conditions and immediately report temperature deviations or equipment issues.

Forklift Operations

(a) Safely operate forklifts and pallet handling equipment within freezer and warehouse areas.

(b) Load, unload, stack, and retrieve palletized goods using forklifts.

(c) Conduct daily forklift safety checks and report defects immediately.

(d) Operate equipment in accordance with safety rules, traffic plans, and cold-storage procedures.

(e) Ensure safe movement of goods to prevent product damage or injury.

Inventory Control & Accuracy

(a) Maintain accurate physical control of domestic freezer inventory.

(b) Ensure proper stock rotation (FIFO / FEFO as applicable).

(c) Record all movements in and out of the freezer accurately and on time.

(d) Support cycle counts and full inventory counts as scheduled.

(e) Identify, investigate, and report discrepancies between physical stock and records.

Issuing & Dispatch Support

(a) Prepare products for domestic dispatch based on approved pick lists.

(b) Verify product code, quantity, lot number, and condition prior to issuing.

(c) Stage products correctly for loading while maintaining cold chain integrity.

(d) Coordinate with Domestic Warehouse staff to ensure timely and accurate dispatch.

Traceability & Documentation

(a) Maintain clear identification of lots, dates, and product codes within the freezer.

(b) Ensure all products are traceable from receipt to domestic dispatch.

(c) Support QA during inspections, audits, and traceability exercises.

(d) Ensure all freezer records and documentation are complete, accurate, and properly filed.

 House keeping, Safety & Compliance

(a) Maintain cleanliness, organization, and order within domestic freezer areas.

(b) Follow all food safety, hygiene, PPE, and forklift safety requirements.

(c) Comply with cold storage and equipment safety procedures at all times.

(d) Report damaged goods, unsafe conditions, accidents, or near-misses immediately.

Any other related duties, as assigned by the Domestic Warehouse Supervisor.

 Reporting & Communication:

1. Report daily freezer and forklift activities, issues, and stock concerns to the Domestic Warehouse Supervisor.
2. Communicate shortages, damages, equipment issues, or dispatch risks promptly.
3. Support coordination with Production, QA, and Sales as required.

 Skills & Competencies:

1. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
2. Certified or competent forklift operator.
3. Ability to work in cold storage environments.
4. Basic inventory and record-keeping skills.
5. Understanding of FIFO / FEFO principles.
6. Good communication and teamwork skills.
7. Dependable and accountable work ethic.

 Qualifications:

1. Secondary school education.
2. Valid forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
3. Experience in freezer operations, warehousing, or food handling preferred.
4. Knowledge of food safety and equipment safety practices is an asset.
