The Transportation Manager is responsible for coordinating, directing, and overseeing the day-to-day operations.

The Transportation Manager is responsible for coordinating, directing, and overseeing the day-to-day operations. This role ensures the efficient delivery of transport services through effective supervision of operational, maintenance, and administrative activities, while maintaining high standards of safety, service reliability, and customer satisfaction.

Employment type: Contract, 1 year renewable (based on performance)
Location: Tobago
Salary range: $20,000 to $25,000 (based on experience)
Housing allowance: $4,000 (only candidates based in Trinidad)
Travel allowance: $1,500

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support senior leadership in supervising daily operations, maintenance, and administrative activities.
  • Conduct daily inspections prior to operations to assess readiness and maintenance status; report findings accordingly.
  • Ensure proper route signage and timely departure of vehicles assigned to scheduled routes.
  • Monitor operational activities to ensure frontline staff receive timely updates on service changes and adjustments.
  • Conduct periodic ride-alongs to assess service delivery and gather feedback; prepare monthly operational reports.
  • Assist department heads in supervising staff, communicating expectations, and resolving customer concerns.
  • Support the resolution of operational and human resource matters, including employee grievances.
  • Enforce compliance with organizational policies and procedures, taking corrective action where necessary.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels across operational and support functions.
  • Develop and maintain maintenance programmes aligned with operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all vehicles are maintained in a safe, clean, and reliable condition.
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance and maintenance audit programmes.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices through training and development.
  • Monitor productivity, fleet reliability, vehicle performance, cleanliness, and safety standards.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance schedules and ensure compliance.
  • Analyse breakdown and defect reports and implement corrective actions to reduce service disruptions.
  • Review operational and maintenance reports to ensure timely handling of defects, parts, and work orders.
  • Monitor technician performance and identify training needs.
  • Ensure maintenance facilities meet safety, cleanliness, and organizational standards.
  • Conduct performance appraisals for direct reports.
  • Maintain adequate inventory levels of parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Perform any other related duties as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Transport Management, or a related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Diploma or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in transport operations or a related field.
  • At least five (5) years’ supervisory or management experience in a similar role.

  • Understanding of transport regulations and operational standards (considered an asset)
  • Knowledge of project management principles (cost, schedule, quality)
