The Financial Research Officer is responsible for the analysis of data.

A.    Job Summary

The Financial Research Officer is responsible for the analysis of data as it relates to capital markets, local and international economies, securities regulation and all other associated matters. The incumbent also conducts research in order to identify and monitor trends in the global and local capital markets.

 

B.    Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Conducts research on all matters related to the securities industry as assigned and makes presentations on research findings.
  • Utilises research methodologies and best practices to support planning, design, implementation and dissemination of research, data and/or the completion of reports.
  • Assists in the preparation and review of policy recommendations and documents.
  • Confirms the accuracy and legitimacy of data collected and maintains associated databases.
  • Undertakes analysis of all data collected in the Commission’s capital market data systems and prepares the requisite periodic reports.
  • Prepares periodic summaries of relevant capital market research.
  • Responds to queries and requests in accordance with documented procedures.
  • Keeps abreast of developments and innovations within the local and international capital markets.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

 

C.    Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics/ Finance or related field.
  • Two (2) years of research experience in a finance environment.
  • Any relevant combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

 

D.   Competencies

Technical:

  • Knowledge of domestic and international financial markets and instruments
  • Knowledge of statistical and forecasting techniques and packages
  • Knowledge of research methodologies and techniques
  • Understanding of macro and micro economic principles
  • Understanding of the Securities Act 2012 and its subsidiary legislation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including database search skills
