The Financial Research Officer is required to monitor and report on the activities of market actors in respect of compliance with the Securities Act, 2012, its By-Laws, certain provisions of the Companies Act 1995, the Stock Exchange Rules and any other pertinent legislation.
Job Summary
Monitor and report on the activities of market actors in respect of compliance with the Securities Act, 2012, its By-Laws, certain provisions of the Companies Act 1995, the Stock Exchange Rules and any other pertinent legislation and the identification of infringements by registrants and non-registrants in order to provide recommendations where necessary to ensure the development and maintenance of a fair and orderly capital market.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities
- Monitors the activities of registrants and other market actors to ensure compliance with the
- governing securities legislation.
- Conducts inquiries and compiles reports on instances of suspected activities that contravene the governing legislation, conflict of interest situations involving self-regulatory organisations, market actors and other persons that fall under the purview of the Commission.
- Monitors trading activity of listed companies on the Stock Exchange and identifies instances of suspected trading irregularities or market misconduct.
- Prepares daily, weekly and quarterly trade reports and conducts inquiries into flagged trades or other suspicious activity.
- Liaises with the self-regulatory organisations on matters related to electronic trading and trade settlement.
- Conducts inquiries into and reports on complaints received from investors who might be aggrieved by activities of registrants or non-registrants and makes appropriate recommendations for enforcement action (where necessary).
- Assists in the conduct of formal investigations as mandated by the Board.
- Monitors the capital of registrants to ensure compliance with capital adequacy requirements.
- Assists with the maintenance of an efficient database system of financial and other information in respect of brokerage firms and listed companies in order to facilitate easy retrieval of up-to-date information by Divisional staff.
- Keeps current with developments and innovations in the local and international capital markets to improve the monitoring capacity and capability of the Commission in order to protect the interests of investors.
- Prepares correspondence and other documents related to the work of the Division.
- Represents the Division on cross-functional projects and committees of the Commission.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting or related field.
- Two (2) years’ relevant experience in a finance or compliance environment.
- Any relevant combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
