The successful candidate will serve as the lead accountant and internal financial manager, with the responsibility of overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust internal controls, and guaranteeing regulatory compliance.

JOB TITLE: FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

JOB PURPOSE:

The successful candidate will serve as the lead accountant and internal financial manager, with the responsibility of overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust internal controls, and guaranteeing regulatory compliance. The person will bridge tactical accounting with strategic planning, providing essential data for executive decision-making. The Financial Controller supports the CFO by translating strategic financial priorities into actionable processes, ensuring timely and reliable financial reporting in accordance with IFRS.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Financial Reporting & Controls: Produce accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS. Implement and maintain robust internal control policies and procedures.
  • Accounting Operations: Lead the accounting team, overseeing the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and month-end/year-end close processes.
  • Budgeting & Analysis: Develops the annual budgets and financial forecasts, while conducting variance analysis to compare actual results against plans.
  • Audit & Compliance: Coordinate internal and external audits and act as the main point of contact for tax compliance.
  • Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow and working capital to ensure liquidity and financial stability.
  • Strategic Support: Act as a partner to senior leadership, providing financial data for decision-making regarding operational efficiency and ROI.  Ensures adherence to accounting policies, internal controls, and ethical standards across the finance team

 

EDUCATIONAL, SKILLS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional certification (ACCA, CPA, or CMA) will be an asset.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, including at least 3 years supervising teams.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Insurance or financial services industry experience preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Sage, Medynyx) and Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools is an advantage.
