 Job Summary

The Financial Controller is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the Finance Division of R.A. Williams Distributors. The role ensures the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the Company’s financial records and reporting, strengthens internal controls, and safeguards Company assets against error, inefficiency, and fraud.

 The Financial Controller oversees all accounting operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, audits, statutory compliance, and cash flow management, while supporting management and the Board with reliable financial insights to guide decision-making.

 Job Duties

  • Provide leadership and day-to-day oversight of the Finance Department and its staff.
  • Assess, design, and continuously improve the structure, efficiency, and strategic direction of the accounting and finance functions.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to financial management.
  • Establish, document, and enforce accounting policies and business processes to strengthen internal controls and ensure consistency.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and well-organized financial records, ensuring availability for internal and external examination.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash disbursements, and bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure effective cash flow management and financial discipline across the organization.
  • Promote interdepartmental collaboration to support accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate and lead the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and periodic re-forecasts; analyze and report variances.
  • Prepare and issue timely, accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Lead the preparation and presentation of financial reports for monthly Board of Directors meetings, providing clear analysis and insights.
  • Ensure financial data supports informed management decisions and strategic planning.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage internal and external audits, including follow-up on audit findings and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Identify potential financial risks, errors, or fraudulent activity and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Prepare and submit the Company’s Annual Return to the Companies Office of Jamaica and ensure all statutory filings are completed on time.
  • Perform any other duties reasonably assigned that support the efficient, compliant, and sustainable operation of the Company.

Education/Training/Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional qualification).
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a senior accounting or financial management role.
  • Prior auditing experience is an asset.
  • Professional accounting certification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CA) would be an asset.

  • Proficiency in financial and accounting software systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
