The Financial Accountant is responsible for providing financial oversight and reporting within the organization. The job holder is required to monitor the financial status of the business and make recommendations to the Executive Team to manage same.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements and records for management review and decision making within established timelines. Ensure compliance with statutory accounting standards and audit practices
  2. Manage ledgers, journals and fixed asset data base, and ensure accurate financial record keeping across departments
  3. Identify and reconcile variances in ledgers and accounts, tracking them to the source and correcting them
  4. Conduct continuous analysis on variances to assist the business with strategies for continuous improvement
  5. Lead the annual budgeting and planning process
  6. Liaise with Internal/External Auditors to ensure audited accounts are submitted in a timely manner
  7. Manage the inventory system to ensure accurate inventory and cost of sales
  8. Manage the procurement and purchasing function to ensure efficiency and cost savings
  9. Oversee the processing of the non-management payroll function for both monthly and fortnightly pay cycles
  10. Review accounting processes and practices and improve where necessary to ensure efficient financial operations. Assume responsibility of accounting procedures
  11. Lead, manage, guide and motivate a team
  12. Perform any other duties as required by the job function

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE

  • Solid knowledge of basic and advanced accounting and financial principles and practices and relevant standards
  • Excellent knowledge of cost accounting and reporting
  • Excellent knowledge or risk analysis, budgeting and forecasting
  • Working knowledge of financial software and MS Office

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

 

 

 

  • Experience with forecasting and budgeting
  • Ability to analyses complex reports
  • Ability to effectively communicate accounting concepts to non-finance staff
  • Organized and structured in daily duties
  • Team player and ability to establish strong relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to facilitate business partnering
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Intermediate to advanced computer software skills, including Excel and other accounting packages
  • Analytical mind with aptitude in math
  • A problem-solver with attention to detail
  • Organizational and leadership skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

  • BSc/BA in accounting, finance or similar field
  • Professional Accounting qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, CPA or CA
  • At least fifteen [15] years proven and progressive experience as a financial / management accountant, accounting supervisor or similar role. Five (5) years of which are at a supervisory level in Accounting and Finance Management.
  • Must be computer literate with the ability to produce reports, graphs, spread sheets and presentations.

OTHER:

  • Must be able to work a shift system, weekends and public holidays.
