Financial Accountant-Financial Reporting (Temporary)

Main Purpose of Job: The Financial Accountant-Financial Reporting plays a critical role in providing financial decision-making information by collecting, analyzing, investigating, and reporting financial data. Through detailed recordkeeping and data analysis, the Financial Accountant-Financial Reporting will assist the organization with investing and improving overall financial practices. Working as an integral member of the Finance team the Financial Accountant-Financial Reporting will help managers track current trends and forecast future needs.

The incumbent will be responsible for updating job knowledge and professional qualifications by keeping current with financial regulations and accepted practices; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and maintaining continuing education requirements of the relevant professional qualifications.

The ideal candidate must be mature, level-headed, dedicated and committed to developing a top-notch finance department within a fast-paced, collaborative, team-oriented environment. Attention to detail, accuracy, consistency and confidentiality are extremely important.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares periodic Separate and Consolidated Statement of Comprehensive Income, Financial Position and Cashflow in accordance with International Accounting Standards.
  • Preparation of Financial Statement Notes.
  • Preparation of financial schedules and compile documents for Board and Audit Committee meetings.
  • Generates and prepares weekly and monthly Power BI analytical reports for operational and senior management.
  • Analyse financial data to identify trends, variances, and key performance indicators.
  • Conduct thorough financial modelling and scenario analysis to support strategic initiatives and decision-making processes.
  • Completes month-end closing reviews, procedures, and corrections as per the closing calendar deadlines. This includes reconciliations of the general ledger accounts to the related subledger accounts identifying variances, performing required follow up and ensuring accurate and timely reconciliations.
  • Prepares standard and recurring journal entries with supporting working papers for analytical review and audit.
  • Completes account reconciliations to review and clear all control accounts monthly and maintain appropriate documentation to support the audit.
  • Record investment transactions, encompassing purchases, sales, and income accruals, with precision and adherence to established protocols and diligently reconcile investment accounts and proactively address any discrepancies in a prompt manner to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Interpret and apply the provisions of IFRS 16 to accurately account for leases by calculating lease liabilities, right-of-use assets, and lease expenses in adherence to standard guidelines, while maintaining comprehensive lease accounting records and documentation to support lease classifications and valuation.
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliation reports and conducts daily investigations and monitoring of all banking activities to identify irregularities and mitigate the risk of fraud.
  • Prepares VAT return workings and associated reconciliations.
  • Prepares tax returns, payments, and monthly reports and keep track of industry trends and changes related to taxes. 
  • Execute the Group’s foreign exchange revaluations.
  • Keep abreast of developments in accounting standards, laws, and regulations, and participate in the implementation of the requisite adjustments to ensure compliance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and document appropriate controls and procedures in areas of responsibility to strengthen the Group’s internal control system.
  • Assist the internal and external auditors with queries and provide all the relevant supporting documentation to conduct the audit.
  • Participate in the review of the company’s accounting system, internal processes and operations and make recommendations for improvements to ensure compliance with best practices and accounting standards.
  • Comply with the document management process of the Group.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
  • As part of a Finance team in a publicly traded company, assists with inventory stock counts, the monthly close process and the external audit/other reviews by external auditors to meet all statutory and regulatory filing deadlines and requirements.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • ACCA qualified or similar qualifications
  • 7 years of experience working in a similar environment.
  • Experience in an SAP-FI environment and BI tools.
  • Certificate in Microsoft Office Suite of applications.

 

Required Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Proficient in SAP, Microsoft Office Suite, and BI tools or related software.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate legislative, IFRS, IAS and regulatory requirements.
  • High standard of professionalism and integrity as this position requires strict confidentiality and infallible integrity and ethical standards.
  • Customer service capabilities with ability to demonstrate tact and professionalism.
  • Consistent compliance with policies and procedures and ability to help ensure strict adherence by others.
  • Takes personal responsibility for self-improvement and identifying process improvements that foster efficiency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong work ethic with attention to detail and meticulous approach to work.
  • Be self-motivated; able to work independently; can learn rapidly; and possess sound critical thinking skills and a superior work ethic.
