The Finance Manager leads financial planning and analysis, oversees financial reporting and compliance, and manages both strategic and finance functions. This role involves working closely with senior management to develop long-term financial strategies, ensure regulatory compliance, and optimize financial systems. Additionally, the Finance Manager is responsible for building and developing a high-performing finance team, mitigating financial risks, and driving the company's financial health and strategic direction.
Job Responsibilities
Operational Finance Management
- Accounts Management: Manage the operations and deliverables of the accounts payable, general ledger and treasury functions to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Credit Control: Manage the operations and deliverables of the Credit Control sub-department, ensuring attainment of required credit and collections metrics and compliance with Company/Group/Regulatory standards. Develop and implement policies to improve collections and manage vendor relationships effectively.
- Inventory Management: Manage the operations and deliverables of the Inventory Management and Inventory Controls metrics and ensure compliance with Company/Group/Regulatory standards. Ensure attainment of planned vs. actual perpetual/cycle/annual and ad hoc stock counts and resolution of all stock variances within established timeframes.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor and manage the company’s cash flow to ensure liquidity and optimize working capital. Develop cash flow forecasts and strategies to manage short-term and long-term liquidity needs.
- Cost Management: Analyse cost structures and implement cost-saving measures to enhance total profitability. Work with department heads to identify cost drivers and develop strategies to control and reduce costs.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation and timely submission of ad hoc, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Company/Group/Regulatory standards. Ensure that financial reporting provides accurate and actionable insights to senior management and stakeholders.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and reporting requirements, including tax filings and audits. Stay updated on changes in regulations and accounting standards to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Internal Controls: Develop and enforce robust internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting. Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.
Strategic Financial Planning & Analyses
- Develop and Implement Financial Strategies: Collaborate with senior management to create medium to long-term financial strategies aligned with the company’s growth objectives, including market expansion, product diversification, and capital allocation.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process, working with department heads to create realistic budgets. Provide accurate financial forecasts to support strategic decision-making, including rolling forecasts and scenario analyses.
- Financial Modelling: Create and maintain comprehensive financial models to evaluate business scenarios, and profitability metrics across all divisions and brands. Use these models to guide strategic decisions and provide insights into financial performance and risks.
Financial Systems & Process Improvement
- ERP Enhancement: Lead the optimization of ERP systems to further streamline financial processes and improve data accuracy. Ensure that the ERP system meets the needs of the finance department and integrates seamlessly with other business systems.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations. Use technology and best practices to automate routine tasks and improve data quality.
- Technology Integration: Leverage financial technology solutions to enhance reporting, analysis, and overall financial management. Stay updated on emerging financial technologies and assess their potential impact on the organization.
Risk Management
- Risk Assessment: Identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Conduct regular risk assessments and implement risk management frameworks.
- Insurance Management: Oversee the company’s insurance programs to ensure adequate coverage and manage claims effectively. Work with insurance providers to optimize coverage and cost.
- Investment Oversight: Evaluate investment opportunities and provide recommendations to senior management. Monitor the performance of investments and make adjustments as necessary to achieve strategic goals.
Leadership & Team Development
- Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop the finance team to build a high-performing and cohesive unit. Set performance goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to support business initiatives and provide financial insights. Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the organization.
- Training & Development: Conduct training sessions to enhance the financial acumen of non-finance managers across the organization. Promote a culture of continuous learning and development within the finance team.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: ACCA Level 3 qualifications. Post-graduate qualifications preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial role within the food, beverage, or distribution industry.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in financial software and ERP systems. Advanced Excel skills are required.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of GAAP/IFRS, financial regulations, and industry-specific financial practices.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset.
