Facilities Maintenance Engineer

(Based in St. James) 

 

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, this position is responsible for the effective use of resources to organize, administer, and lead the Commission’s Facilities Management and Support Service Programme in the Western Region. The incumbent will be required to oversee the maintenance of all NWC occupied buildings, grounds, equipment and furnishings, so as to provide staff and customers with safe, attractive and healthy places to work and conduct business.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Executing facilities maintenance and support service activities by planning, scheduling, and organizing work for all personnel reporting to the position.
  • Developing and implementing a Facilities Maintenance Plan that includes both preventative and corrective measures aimed at ensuring the upkeep and safety of all facilities within the region.
  • Preparing bid documents, proposals, and tender documents for small construction projects as well as maintenance projects, and assisting in the selection of contractors.
  • Preparing specifications, negotiating, and recommending contractors to perform maintenance and repair services using established procurement guidelines.
  • Supervising and inspecting the work performed and processing payment upon satisfactory completion of the work.
  • Developing and implementing an efficient Work Order System for scheduling repairs of facilities and equipment to facilitate monitoring and reporting of work being done.
  • Recommending facility improvement and modernization works to improve the efficiency, flow, and aesthetics of the facilities.
  • Directing the Commission’s facility installations, repairs, construction, remodeling, maintenance, and upkeep projects.
  • Conducting regular inspections of all facilities, grounds, equipment, and support structures to ensure that high standards of cleanliness, aesthetics, serviceability, functionality, and safety are maintained, and recommending improvements as necessary.
  • Working cooperatively with communities and state agencies and ministries, including the police and fire services, on safety and other regulatory and compliance issues.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of related experience in Civil Works or Construction Management, with three (3) years at the supervisory level in the field.
  • Supervisory Management training and Project Management certificates and experience.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in quantity surveying.
  • Knowledge of safety laws and regulations, and applicable government regulations and codes pertaining to the building industry.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, time management, leadership, and administrative skills.
  • Ability to prepare bills of quantities and estimates.
