The database administrator (DBA) is responsible for the design, implementation performance, integrity and security of the company’s databases. Works collaboratively with other IT Administrators to support and enable the availability of critical development servers.

The database administrator (DBA) is responsible for the design, implementation performance, integrity and security of the company’s databases. Works collaboratively with other IT Administrators to support and enable the availability of critical development servers. Develop and maintain procedures to assure database availability, security and recoverability within corporate guidelines and procedures.

 Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent 8 years work experience.
  • Professional SQL and Oracle certifications are preferred.
  • 5 - 8 years directly related work experience.

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have strong computer skills and working knowledge of system applications.
  • Excellent working relationship with Managers, Technical Staff, peers and customers.
  • Knowledge of Oracle and SQL architecture, installation, configuration, maintenance, and patching procedures.
  • Strong experience writing SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers
  • Strong experience with Windows, Linux and Unix server operating systems
  • Skill in resolving database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues
  • Extensive experience with implementing and utilizing scripts.
  • Solid communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms across a user community with varied technical skill levels.
  • Experience developing, maintaining, and using SSIS.

 Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Providing primary support activities for all database systems, including the provision of 24x7 on-call support (problem/incident management).
  • Install, configure and test database and database related software patches, packages and new releases.
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required.
  • Modify existing databases and database management systems or direct programmers and analysts to make changes.
  • Perform and maintain database backups, recovery and refreshes.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard company data against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure.
  • Approve, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems, such as the installation of new databases.
  • Create and maintain database interconnectivity and replication.
  • Specify users and user access levels for each segment of database.
  • Develop data model describing data elements and how they are used, following procedures and using pen, template or computer software.
  • Develop methods for integrating different products so they work properly together, such as customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs.
  • Work as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations.
  • Select and enter codes to monitor database performance and to create production database.
  • Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems to serve as a source of information and advice for IT management.
  • Document and manage database architecture for capacity and capability planning.
  • Document database configurations as per department procedures.
