Our client is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team and drive improvements across their feed mill operations.

Role Overview

As the Engineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for leading the engineering department, overseeing all equipment-related projects, and ensuring a high standard of safety, maintenance, and team performance. You’ll play a key role in ensuring optimal plant functionality, while fostering collaboration across departments to drive innovation and operational success.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

  • Lead, guide, and support the engineering team in achieving operational targets.
  • Assign tasks and coordinate team activities for efficient workflow and project delivery.
  • Promote a collaborative and positive team environment.
  • Supervise milling operations when the Operations Manager is unavailable.

Maintenance & Continuous Improvement

  • Oversee all maintenance projects, ensuring that feed mill machinery and systems function optimally.
  • Lead improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reliability, and plant performance.
  • Introduce and implement innovative solutions to address technical challenges and process inefficiencies.

Equipment Installation, Repairs & Upgrades

  • Manage installation, repair, and upgrade activities for all feed mill equipment.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts to minimize downtime and keep production on track.
  • Ensure machinery meets required safety, performance, and quality standards.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Design and implement robust preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life.
  • Schedule inspections and maintenance activities to reduce risk of breakdowns.
  • Keep accurate maintenance records and generate reports on performance and repairs.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Work closely with departments such as Production and Quality Control to optimize plant processes.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to solve interdepartmental challenges.
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with stakeholders to ensure alignment on goals and deliverables.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by the General Manager.

Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with all safety regulations and environmental standards.
  • Implement safety protocols and promote a culture of safe working practices.
  • Stay current on industry best practices and evolving regulatory requirements.

People Management

  • Create shift schedules and assign daily responsibilities based on operational needs.
  • Motivate and monitor engineering team performance to meet departmental goals.
  • Collaborate with HR using the company’s HRIS (BambooHR) to support recruitment by identifying team needs and shortlisting candidates.
  • Play an active role in managing performance by providing regular feedback, clarifying expectations, and helping team members improve.
  • Coach and mentor team members to foster personal and professional growth, promoting ownership and accountability.
  • Participate in the annual performance appraisal process, ensuring evaluations are accurate, unbiased, and developmental.


What We’re Looking For

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field (professional certifications are an asset).
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within an industrial/manufacturing environment; experience in a feed mill is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of feed mill machinery, maintenance best practices, and plant operations.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple initiatives effectively.
  • Excellent team leadership and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory safety and environmental compliance.
  • Experience using HR systems, such as BambooHR, for recruitment and staff management.
