We're hiring an Engineering Manager

Our client is one of Jamaica’s leading manufacturers and distributors of premium quality ice cream and frozen novelties. On their behalf, we are seeking to hire an Engineering Manager who will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The Engineering Manager develops and manages an effective, planned, and preventative maintenance Team & system to improve Production OEE and cost efficiencies for the ice cream factory, cold rooms, Cone Factory, and depots.

The Engineering Manager prepares complete proposals and timelines for implementation and follows through to completion on a project management basis for specific projects assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health and Safety compliance of all assets.
  • Develops and manages the Engineering team to drive performance and reduce operational costs.
  • Provides supervision for maintenance service and support as needed for repairs and efficient operations of the following areas: all facility equipment, all facility support equipment, air compressors, vacuum pumps, electrical sprinkler and alarm systems. All security systems including cameras. etc
  • Drives the achievement of Key KPI’s such as Mean time between failure (MTBF) and Mean time to repair (MTTR).
  • Identifies and eliminates long term chronic issues.
  • Develops systems to improve the reliability of assets.
  • Develops KPIs which demonstrate the correlation between the planned asset care system effectiveness and line performance showing value for money.
  • Provide top level information and analysis on all operation areas affecting line performance.
  • Provides support to the factory teams.
  • When necessary, assembles rapid improvement teams.
  • Develops close working relationships with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to ensure value for money.
  • Has direct responsibility in collaboration with the General Manager and the Procurement Manager for ordering correct maintenance materials & spares in such quantities to maintain production and meet budget.
  • Assumes responsibility as the internal Project Manager for all capital expenditure projects undertaken by ensuring the existence of approved budget with agreed deliverables and necessary timelines.
  • Ensures compliance to all legislative and company requirements on all equipment.
  • Be a point of reference for the provision risk assessments and safe systems of work on all equipment and manufacturing assets.
  • Participates in and supports continuous Improvement programs such as  5S, Lean, recycling and Quick Change Over.
  • Provides monthly/daily up-dates on critical issues in the maintenance areas

KPIs/Objectives

  • Year on year improvement in planned maintenance
  • Improving OEE performance for factory
  • Overhead cost control v budget.
  • Regular individual reviews and bi-annual appraisal for team.
Qualification/Experience:
  • At least a first Degree in Mechanical/Civil Engineering with at least five years professional experience in a production manufacturing environment.
  • Diploma in Preventative Maintenance/Production Management and a minimum of five  years’ experience in a similar capacity.
Personal Capabilities:
  • Sound knowledge of contractual agreements
  • Strong supplier relationship  management
  • Ability to interpret technical specification and use sound judgment to make business decisions.
  • Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems.
  • Communication skills for overseeing staff and working with other management personnel. They need to be able to effectively communicate instructions while leading the team to meet their goals.
  • Detail-oriented for understanding complex systems and the ability to pay attention to details, as a minor error can result in major problems.
  • Math skills, including calculus and other advanced mathematics for developing new processes and products.
  • Organizational skills for keeping track of various budgets, employees, and schedules simultaneously.
