Overview: Our client is a leading provider of robust electrical projects to the commercial/residential sector in Barbados. Due to growth, they are seeking to add a professional to the team. The successful applicant will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing electrical engineering projects from initial design and estimation through implementation and completion.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Engineering:

  • Prepare and interpret technical statements of work and engineering documentation related to project planning, budgeting, procurement, implementation, testing, and completion.
  • Review project plans and engineering designs for compliance with the NEC, GEED standards, regulatory requirements and accepted engineering practices.
  • Analyze estimates, tender documents, engineering drawings, while considering available materials, costs and quality requirements.
  • Prepare CAD drawings and technical documentation that include specifications, materials, dimensions and procedures in accordance with customer requirements and engineering standards.
  • Develop project schedules and determine labor and resource requirements to ensure timely project execution.

Project Management and Coordination:

  • Manage multiple electrical projects simultaneously, including budgets, labor requirements, schedules and project resources.
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, contractors, subcontractors, vendors and clients to support project execution.
  • Participate in client and contractor negotiations relating to project scope, estimates and technical requirements.
  • Attend site meetings called by the client, contractor, or their representatives to discuss project progress, resolve issues and coordinate project activities.
  • Track project costs relative to estimates and evaluate cost effectiveness of products, services, and project activities.
  • Work closely with the Main Contractor on projects to establish the sequence of work activities and ensure effective project coordination.

Supervision & Compliance:

  • Oversee onsite electrical installations to ensure work is completed in accordance with the NEC, GEED standards and applicable safety regulations.
  • Direct site supervisors, foremen and other project personnel to ensure productivity and proper execution of tasks.
  • Monitor project progress through site visits and regular communication with project teams.
  • Ensure acceptable health, safety, and housekeeping practices are maintained at company worksites.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and operational standards.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Prepare project reports, estimates, and other documentation at regular intervals throughout the life of the project.
  • Establish cost monitoring and reporting systems for projects.
  • Ensure proper project close-out including final documentation and project accounts.
  • Conduct special studies where required to establish labor standards and cost data.
  • Maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors suitable for project work.

Team Leadership & Support

  • Provide technical assistance and support to other Electrical Contracting and Maintenance teams as required.
  • Participate in the recruitment and training of team members where necessary.
  • Conduct periodic performance evaluations for direct reports and establish performance targets and objectives.
  • Promote productivity and address job-related issues with supervisors and foremen.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Travel between project sites to monitor progress and ensure project requirements are being met.
  • Assist in finalizing project accounts and resolving project-related issues.
  • Perform any other tasks that may be assigned from time to time or as business requirements may dictate.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Barbados or eligibility for registration would be an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Electrical engineering, including experience managing electrical projects.
  • Experience in construction, electrical contracting, or infrastructure projects would be beneficial.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, installation practices, and engineering standards.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications and CAD designs.
  • Strong project management, planning and coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective leadership and communication skills.
