Electrical Engineer, Facilities Management Department

Applications are invited from suitably qualified members of staff to resource the position of Electrical Engineer, Engineering Services, Facilities Management, Facilities Management and Protective Services Division. Reporting to the Team Leader- Engineering Services the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Supervising and monitoring the work of the Electrical/Electro-Mechanical Technicians and providing hands-on coaching support to ensure adherence to the technical and professional standards involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of the electrical engineering systems.
  2. Applying electrical engineering principles in identifying appropriate tools and equipment as well as appropriate materials and services required to maintain quality and standards.
  3. Preparing and disseminating periodic reports (daily, weekly and monthly) in keeping with agreed reporting standards and timelines.
  4. Conducting research of electrical drawings, update drawings where required and assist with conducting “As Built” drawings.
  5. Conducting planned inspection for all electrical installations in the organization such as earth resistance checking in earth pits, motor resistance checking, inter alia.
  6. Providing input on vendor selection and assisting in review of contractor proposals.
  7. Conducting research on equipment and systems to ensure optimal operations and maintenance.
  8. Applying knowledge of engineering principles and theories to design and analyze facilities electrical/electronic systems (e.g., power, equipment installations, control, and monitoring systems, etc.)
  9. Using appropriate resources to produce project drawings, specifications, and permit application packages in accordance with project parameters and government procurement guidelines.
  10. Monitoring project progress and vendor/consultant performance; preparing and presenting project information and updates to ensure compliance with applicable construction documents and jurisdictional requirements in order to meet project objectives.
  11. Monitoring operations to ensure that the highest health, safety, environmental and good housekeeping standards are maintained at all times and particularly during the execution of work by external contractors.
  12. Keeping abreast of development in the relevant areas of engineering services and advising the Team Leader of improvements in technology, systems and processes which have the potential to improve efficiency and reduce the cost of operations.
  13. Contributing to the development and execution of an annual programme of planned maintenance with special emphasis on the electrical & electronic equipment and systems.
  14. Constantly reviewing the operational efficiency of the Bank’s engineering systems with particular attention to the electrical/electronic equipment and systems and making recommendations for improvements. 
  15. Providing supervisory leadership and training to the technicians assigned to the team and ensuring the continuous development of technical and professional skills and competencies by the identification and communication of learning needs.
  16. Exercising direct responsibility for the operations and maintenance of the Bank's main and sub-main switchgears, switch rooms, generators, load break switches, high voltage and low voltage transformers, automatic transfer switches, distribution panels (JPS and UPS isolators), six (6) passenger elevators, two (2) freight elevators, two (2) escalators, motors and motor control centre, lighting and lighting circuits and electrical network infrastructure rooms.
  17. Directly supervising the work of external contractors to ensure adherence to the agreed contract parameters and the standards of the Bank.
  18. Contributing to the development and design of improvement and maintenance projects through the collection and analysis of background data and identification of design implications and challenges, and the definition of project scope.
  19. Responding expeditiously to maintenance service calls, diagnosing problems, assembling and deploying the technical staff needed to affect the necessary repairs.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Under Graduate Degree in Electrical Engineering with at least five (5) years in an engineering maintenance or construction environment and at least three (3) years in a supervisory position.
  • Licensed as an electrician by an approved authority.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

The Job Holder should possess:

  • Knowledge of the Bank’s engineering systems with special emphasis on the Electrical/Electronic systems
  • Ability to trouble shoot,  diagnosis and analysis engineering systems
  • Ability to supervise projects
  • Ability to read Blueprint
  • Sound Human Relations
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB

  • Fair amount of walking
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous conditions
  • Required to be on call 24 hours to attend to emergency situations which may arise.
