Programme Objectives

The Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) credential is an internationally recognized standard for financial planning. This CFP® Education Program is designed to assist financial planners achieve their career and professional goals. Financial planners and advisors will be exposed to the theoretical and practical knowledge to assist their clients to achieve their financial goals through prudent wealth management, estate planning and financial planning approaches. This CFP® Education Programme is offered in association Advocis and CCH Canadian Limited with the approval of the Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC).

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the programme students will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge and skills:

- Understanding of the major financial theories, technical and legal concepts in financial planning.

- Practice standards for financial planners who engage in financial planning with clients.

- The process for conducting financial planning sessions with clients.

- Monitoring financial plans which periodically involves reviewing and making adjustments to the recommendations required to help clients achieve predetermined goals.

  • Comprehensive Practices in Rish & Retirement Planning
  • Financial Planning Fundamentals
  • Wealth Management and Estate Planning
  • All courses are compulsory. There are no elective courses.

Admission Requirements

  • A minimum of five CXC passes, (General Proficiency) Grades I and II (Grade III accepted from June 1998 onwards) or five GCE O’Level passes, Grades A, B and C (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics and two A’Level (Grades A, B or C) or CAPE (Grades 1, 2 or 3)
  • Applicants may also be considered on the basis of their work experience, relevant training and educational background as deemed relevant by ROYTEC’s Admissions Committee to be the equivalent of the above for the purpose of study. Applicants may be subject to an interview.

 

Programme Structure

CFP Education Programme (ROYTEC)

This first part of the programme must be completed before moving on to earning the CFP Designation and requires the successful completion of the following courses: Financial Planning Fundamentals, Contemporary Practices in Financial Planning, Comprehensive Practices in Risk and Retirement Planning, Wealth Management and Estate Planning and lastly a Comprehensive Exam.

 

CFP Designation (Advocis)

To progress onto the CFP Designation upon completion of the CFP Education Programme, students must have one (1) year of financial planning work experience to do Financial Planning Exam 1 which can be done online.  Registration with the Financial Planning Standards Council will be mandatory to maintain eligibility for the CFP Designation They will then have to do the CCH/Advocis FPSC Approved Capstone Course and then move on to do the Financial Planning exam 2 once they have more than three (3) years of financial planning work experience.

Special Note on Books and Exams

Upon registration students will be required to pay a fee for their text book which also covers the cost of their exams. This fee is only applicable for each of the first four courses in the education programme.
