GOVERNMENT VACANCY
JOB TITLE: Economist

JOB SUMMARY:
To plan, design, and conduct research to support the analysis and evaluation of economic relationships affecting tax compliance and revenue collection. This includes building economic models, applying analytical techniques, and utilizing economic theories to enhance tax data interpretation, inform policymaking, and optimize revenue collection for the Turks and Caicos Islands Government.
Technical and Professional Duties.
• Plan, design, and conduct economic research to interpret fiscal trends and address issues related to tax compliance.
• Develop and apply econometric models and statistical tools to assess taxpayer behavior, identify compliance risks, and estimate revenue potential.
• Design modern revenue forecasting models and ensure they remain relevant, accurate, and aligned with national economic indicators.
• Utilize data mining techniques to analyze trends and patterns in tax compliance and revenue collection.
• Conduct sectoral economic surveys and translate findings into actionable reports for departmental use.
• Build databases of economic indicators and tax-related metrics; organize data into standardized reporting formats.
• Coordinate with financial institutions, regional bodies, and internal departments on key economic and revenue initiatives.
• Train staff on the application and interpretation of financial and economic models and metrics.
• Identify relationships between taxpayer segments, economic indicators, and revenue outcomes.
• Provide ongoing assessments of the domestic tax gap and prepare reports detailing findings and recommendations.
• Stay informed of global and regional economic trends and recommend appropriate tax policy responses.
• Review and support the design of risk models across functional areas such as debt, refunds, and audit.
• Draft policy recommendations and plans that support IRD’s strategic and operational goals.
• Act as Deputy to the Policy and Strategic Planning Manager in their absence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE:
• A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University Economics.
• A Master’s in Finance or finance related fields would be an asset.
Experience: Minimum of eight (8) years working experience in Finance of which a minimum of three (3) years should have been spent at a Management level.
SALARY: Grade - 8.1 - $64,985.00 per annum
