ENGINEER (TELEVISION DEPARTMENT)

Salary range:

$4,266,270 - $5,737,659 per annum

Reports to: Manager, Television Department

Job Scope

Responsible for the day-to-day operation, utilisation and maintenance of production and post-production equipment on both on-air and off-air television environments. The incumbent is also required to document necessary changes to the production guidelines, to diagnose technical problems, to perform emergency repairs and to institute maintenance and preventative systems.

Core Functions

•             Provides technical information and advice to the Manager, Television and other internal and external stakeholders.

•             Ensures that all the necessary engineering processes, systems and controls are in place within the Department to enable achievement of its objectives.

•             Examines the equipment for the production teams of the Radio and Television Departments and Regional Offices, and determines whether equipment updates, enhancements and modifications are necessary.

•             Conducts quarterly audits of equipment and produces the required reports on findings.

•             Identifies and implements continuous improvements to the Agency’s engineering systems, procedures and processes to minimise overall production costs while maximising productivity.

•             Conducts the necessary research and contributes expert advice/ recommendations on proposed equipment purchases to facilitate the preparation of the Annual Capital Budget.

•             Formulates and monitors the implementation of corrective and preventative maintenance schedules for all television production teams.

•             Conducts maintenance and minor repairs of machinery or equipment including performing regular software and hardware updates.

•             Plans and organises the technical arrangements for outside broadcast assignments and other major events.

•             Provides general technical support ensuring quality production and transmission of both audio and video.

•             Provides the day-to-day leadership and direction for the Assistant Engineers and oversees and manages the team’s activities and operations.

Required Competencies

•             Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

•             Strong planning, organisational, interpersonal and conflict management skills

•             Detail-oriented with strong customer relations skills and ability to build positive vendor and client relationships

•             Integrity and confidentiality

•             Sound knowledge of production standards, systems and procedures

•             Knowledge of computerised and mechanical mixing and recording systems

•             Knowledge of electronics and digital equipment

Qualifications and Experience

•             First Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification from an accredited tertiary institution

•             At least three (3) years’ experience in Outside Broadcasting and Live Shoot

•             General driver’s licence and at least two (2) years’ driving experience

Special Conditions

•             Required to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends and public holidays

•             Required to travel extensively islandwide.
