The post of Driver is located in UNFPA Liaison Office, Belize and reports to the Liaison Officer, Belize.
Job Purpose
The Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the Director, Deputy Director and other high-ranking UN officials and visitors, ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, and excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Scope of work/Main tasks and responsibilities, et al
- Drives for UNFPA officials and staff.
- Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services by a) driving office vehicles for the transport of UNFPA staff, officials and visitors and b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport including assisting with visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.
- Ensures cost-savings through proper use of assigned vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
- Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes and water levels, car washing, etc so that the vehicle is always kept clean and in good running condition.
- Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts for the assigned vehicle.
- Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken, in case of involvement in an accident.
- Provides timely and effective office assistant support, including but not limited to (a) Receives and assists visitors to office, (b) Answers telephone, directs calls and responds to routine inquiries (c) Delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items, (d) Dispatches outgoing communication and Logs and routes all incoming correspondence and documents, (e) Assists in the mailing and distribution of newsletters and publications, (f) Assists office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining stores, when required.
- Performs administrative duties to support the operational efficiency and functioning of the office (e.g. AODocs, and other system functions)
- Provides communications support and backstopping in collaboration with the programme and operations team, particularly the Communications Officer/Focal Points
- Makes logistical arrangements/provides support for internal and external meetings, workshops, and special events.
- Supports staff in emergency and humanitarian related activities and response.
- Performs other duties, as required
Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
- Completed High School Education.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Minimum of two years’ work experience as a driver
- Work experience as a driver in an international organisation, embassy or UN system is an advantageKnowledge of driving rules and regulations, local roads and conditions
- Skill in minor vehicle repairs
- Basic clerical skills are required
Languages:
- Good knowledge of the working language of Belize, English. Spanish language is an advantage
