POSITION OVERVIEW
The Dispatcher is the operational backbone and is responsible for coordinating daily movements of semi trucks and box trucks, assigning loads, communicating with drivers, and ensuring every delivery is completed safely, legally, and on time. This is a critical, high-activity role requiring strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, ELD platforms, and freight dispatch operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Dispatch and coordinate daily movements for semi trucks and box trucks, assigning loads based on driver availability, HOS compliance, and routing efficiency.
  • Serve as the primary communication link between drivers and the operations team, providing real-time instructions and support.
  • Monitor driver ELD logs and hours-of-service (HOS) to ensure full FMCSA and DOT compliance at all times.
  • Track real-time truck locations via GPS and adjust schedules dynamically for weather, traffic, or mechanical issues.
  • Coordinate with the Loadboard Manager and Customer Success team to match driver schedules with load pickups and customer delivery windows.
  • Maintain accurate dispatch records: load assignments, mileage logs, fuel stops, and parking entries.
  • Troubleshoot on-road incidents - breakdowns, accidents, delays - and coordinate roadside assistance or driver replacements.
  • Optimise routing to reduce empty miles and minimise fuel costs.
  • Ensure pre-trip and post-trip inspection compliance and document any mechanical issues for fleet maintenance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2+ years of dispatcher experience specifically with semi trucks and/or box trucks (freight or moving industry).
  • In-depth knowledge of DOT hours-of-service (HOS) regulations, ELD mandates, and FMCSA rules.
  • Hands-on proficiency with ELD platforms such as KeepTruckin (Motive), Samsara, or equivalent.
  • Experience with TMS or dispatch software for load and driver management.
  • Ability to manage multiple drivers simultaneously in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong verbal communication skills - clear, concise, professional with drivers and clients.
  • High attention to detail, strong time management, and ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • High school diploma required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Availability for flexible shifts including evenings and weekends as required by fleet schedules.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience dispatching both semi trucks (Class A CDL vehicles) and box trucks.
  • Knowledge of freight documentation: BOL, rate confirmations, delivery receipts.
  • Familiarity with load board platforms (DAT, Truckstop) as a complement to dispatch duties.
