Dental Therapist

The Department of Health Services invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for the position of Dental Therapist.

KEY DUTIES

• Collect patient data in order to complete the patient dental record.
• Chart and note the severity of periodontal disease for all patients.
• Enter, maintain and update on a daily basis patient treatment record.
• Discuss briefly with the patient the clinical nature of their complaint and the treatment options.
• Secure consent from patient before treatment begins.
• Follow any written or agreed to guidelines in regards to patient care and the management of the Dental Department.
• Conduct routine maintenance of dental equipment as required and report abnormal findings.
• Maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout.
• Disinfect all working surfaces before and after each patient and ensure instruments are sterilized in order to maintain infection control.
• Produce and process high quality diagnostic dental radiographs.
• Provide the necessary restorative procedures for children on both primary and  permanent teeth.
• Provide emergency dental services.
• Perform uncomplicated extraction of primary or permanent teeth in accordance with training and dental direction.
• Conduct preventive dental health programmes.
• Classify and provide periodontal services for adults and children on a regular basis.
• Maintain regular communication form teacher and school Principal.
• Refer patients for advance care when necessary.
• Exercise proper use and maintenance of dental equipment.
• Perform other related duties as required by the job function.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent must possess a Certificate/Diploma in Dental Therapy.  Two (2) years experience in the field of Dental Therapy.

The minimum qualifications are four (4) CXC or equivalent subject passes.

These knowledges and skills are normally obtained in the course of acquiring a Diploma or Associate Degree in Supplies/Store Management or logistics together with a least four (4) years experience in a similar or related job.
