POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer within the College/Faculty, reporting directly to the Deputy President. S/he is responsible for providing the leadership and educational vision for managing, marketing, and advancing the College/Faculty’s mission of teaching, research, and service, including long-range planning and assessment. This involves sustaining an environment that fosters scholarly endeavour and excellence through good academic administration and good personnel and financial management.
IDEALLY, THE CANDIDATE SHOULD:
- Hold an earned PhD or equivalent professional qualification in a discipline or related area taught within the College/Faculty
- Normally be at the rank of Professor
- Have at least six to eight (6-8) years’ experience in a senior capacity with relevant teaching and/or research experience
- Possess a proven record of academic administrative management with progressive levels of responsibility.
- Have the ability to promote leadership and vision and effectively lead collaborative change; and
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to student-centred learning, rigorous academic standards and to promoting an innovative teaching and learning environment.
REMUNERATION
Compensation will be in accordance with the University’s compensation policies and guidelines.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a responsibility post, and the appointment will be for four (4) years with the possibility for re-appointment for a second term or part thereof. Persons who have served one term in the post are eligible to apply.
