The Data Scientist should be self-motivated, organized, adaptable to unforeseen situations and able to work with large amounts of data on a continuous basis.
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Data Scientist plays a key role in enabling the data driven decision making culture within Guardian. He/She must be skilled at using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building and implementing models, using/creating algorithms and creating/running simulations. This person must have a proven ability to drive business results with their data-based insights. They must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams. The right candidate will have a passion for discovering solutions hidden in large data sets and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes. He/She will function as an integral part of the Data Analytics Team.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Work with the Business Units and various stakeholders across the Group to identify opportunities to leverage company data to drive business solutions.
2. Mine and analyze large volumes of data from company databases using exploratory mathematical and statistical techniques to optimize customer experiences, increase revenue and improve product development, marketing techniques and business strategies.
3. Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
4. Develop custom data models and algorithms to test hypotheses and uncover patterns and latent trends in the business.
5. Develop A/B testing framework and test model quality.
6. Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
7. Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.
8. Work with Technology & Innovation team to resolve data related issues, develop a deployment strategy, build data environments and integrate and implement solutions.
9. Present actionable insights to Executives and Managers and make proactive recommendations on opportunities and challenges that the data may reflect.
10. Perform any other job related duties as assigned by the Team Leader
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• First Degree in Data Science, Statistics, or a related field from a recognized tertiary level educational institution.
• Data Science certification preferred.
• 2 – 3 years’ experience in data-analytics, business optimization.
• Skilled in Excel, PowerPoint, SQL, Python and R.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
As a regulated entity with obligations under the Know Your Employee guidelines, a Certificate of Character is required.

He/She must be adept at using large data sets to find business opportunities and use models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. He/She must possess unquestioned integrity and be able to work with confidential information and able to present findings clearly and efficiently to Executive Committee. The incumbent must be able to efficiently perform in a fast-paced environment while continuously striving to learn and improve on new systems and ideas.
