The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure data pipelines and infrastructure within the Development Bank of Jamaica’s Azure-based environment.
The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure data pipelines and infrastructure within the Development Bank of Jamaica’s Azure-based environment. This role plays a critical part in enabling the Bank’s data warehouse strategy by ensuring high-quality, integrated, and analytics-ready data across the organization.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Infrastructure & Pipeline Engineering
- Build, monitor, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory.
- Manage the ingestion and transformation of data from internal systems (LMS, CRM, ERP) and external sources.
- Utilize Azure Databricks for big data processing, cleaning, and enrichment.
- Design scalable data architectures supporting both real-time and batch workloads.
2. Data Quality, Governance & Security
- Implement data cleansing, normalization, and transformation processes.
- Ensure compliance with internal governance policies and data privacy regulations.
- Support data lineage tracking, metadata management, and contribute to the development of a data catalogue.
3. Database & Cloud Engineering
- Design and optimize relational and non-relational data models.
- Manage data storage using Azure Blob Storage and Azure SQL Database.
4. Collaboration and Support
- Support the development of dashboards and machine learning pipelines by preparing clean and structured datasets.
- Provide technical support for data operations and resolve data-related issues efficiently.
The required minimum qualifications, experiences, and attributes are:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
Certification would be an asset
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900)
- Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate/Professional
Hands on experience in:
- Azure data factory, Azure Databricks and Azure Synapse Analytics
- Azure blob storage, Azure SQL Database and SQL Server
- Data modelling, Schema Design and Data Transformation
- Working with structured and unstructured datasets
Technical Skills:
- Data pipeline development (ETL/ELT)
- Data modelling and warehousing
- Cloud-native architecture on Azure
- Big data tools (Databricks, Spark)
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Detail-oriented with a focus on data quality
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams
- Clear communication and documentation skills
- Initiative and accountability
3-5 years Data Engineering experience, with specific experience in Azure data services.
