Data Analyst

The core responsibility of the Data Analyst is to extract value from data by uncovering useful information and enabling data-driven business decision-making. He/she should be highly skilled in all aspects of data analytics, including mining, generation, and visualization. Additionally, the Data Analyst should be committed to transforming data into readable, goal-driven reports for continued innovation and growth. Under general direction, this person will be responsible for managing data within Yellow Media Group’s databases, providing value-added analyses to Senior Management in all departments, and utilizing existing tools and technology. In addition, the Data Analyst will be responsible for gathering and providing actionable insights by identifying key drivers and areas of opportunities for internal stakeholders.

 EDUCATION, SPECIALISED TECHNIQUES AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary education in a business-related discipline
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in data analytics and leveraging data from multiple sources
  • Experience with data integration from multiple sources
  • Experience with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI or Azure Data Factory will be an asset
  • Proficiency in Excel, Access, PowerPoint
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to adapt to change

 LEARNED DISCIPLINES AND EXPERIENCE:

  •  Ability to understand relational databases
  • A sharp analytical mind that measures success numerically and is comfortable with research data
  • Ability to gather, analyse and synthesize data from various sources and present written assessments and recommendations

  • Data savvy with a strong attention to detail and accuracy

 DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Main duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing and maintaining data systems and databases; this includes fixing coding errors and other data-related problems.
  • Mining data from primary and secondary sources, then reorganizing said data in a format that can be easily read by either humans or machines.
  • Monitor and validate the integrity of data and ensure overall accuracy.
  • Developing and implementing data analyses, data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
  • Using statistical tools to interpret data sets, paying particular attention to trends and patterns that could be valuable for diagnostic and predictive analytics efforts.
  • Preparing reports for executive leadership that effectively communicate trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant data. 
  • Collaborating with programmers, engineers, and organizational leaders to identify opportunities for process improvements, recommend system modifications, and develop policies for data governance.
  • Creating appropriate documentation that allows stakeholders to understand the steps of the data analysis process and duplicate or replicate the analysis if necessary.

 OPERATING CONDITIONS

  •  Normal working environment
  • May be required to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and public holidays for extended hours (month-end and year-end).
  • High stress levels due to stringent deadlines
  • Travel may be required
