Clear and ensure delivery of cargo (air and ocean) to warehouse(s) in accordance with legislation, company’s policies, guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPS) to ensure product availability and guarantee effective cost management

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITES:
Grade I
  • Coordinates and liaises with shipping agents, banks and customs broker (if required) and updates warehouse and other relevant parties of pending deliveries
  • Ensures all import documentation are validated and endorsed by the Ministry of Trade & Industry and the T&T Bureau of Standards
  • Coordinates with haulage company for delivery of containers to warehouse and return of empty containers to port
  • Ensures that all loose and high value cargo are accompanied by security to the warehouse
  • Ensures licenses for different refrigerants are marked off, current and up-to-date
  • Ensures that individual port passes are up to date so employees can legally enter into the Port’s clearing areas.

Grade II

  • Prepare entries for clearance of all shipments using various tools such as Navis, ACE in accordance with Customs and Excise requirements within stipulated deadlines to ensure clearance of the goods
  • Prepare payments for relevant institutions within stipulated timeframe of document or prior to shipment arrival to ensure clearance of goods
  • Track and retrieve shipments and shipping documentations respectively from various parties prior to shipment/s arrival to ensure the effective and efficient clearing of the products and mitigate the risk of rent and demurrage expenses
  • Coordinate with the Port Authority on their internal system to ensure containers have all required releases and are duly discharged from the Port
  • Coordinate with Ports, shipping agents, banks, customs brokers (if required) and haulage companies to effect clearance, delivery and return of the containers
  • Audit rent and demurrage charges and take necessary actions if reimbursement is required to manage costs
  • Perform any other related duty that may be assigned to you by your management line to ensure effective operation of the unit.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Grade II or III Customs Clerk Licence
5 CXC/GCE/CSEC Subjects - inclusive of Mathematics and English Language
Reliable working vehicle
Working knowledge of the various Ports, Customs and Excise and relevant agencies including TTBS requirements
Full knowledge of Trinidad and Tobago Customs Tariff
Working knowledge of Asycuda, Ace and Navis
Working knowledge of shipping agencies, insurance and other legal requirements including international Maritime Law
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong negotiation skills
Strong customer focus, ability to assist in solving customer, supplier and branch
